The Corolla is a global hallmark of Toyota and is branded as a dealership in some markets. The name represents quality, reliability, and efficiency in equal measure. The best part about this 1996 Corolla Levin XZ is that it's also sporty, to boot. Finished in a classic (204) Toyota Black, and accessorized by a set of OEM rainguards and a subtle rear spoiler, the body is in good shape aside from some minor dings, and scratches associated with normal use. This legally imported and recently serviced example is one of the cleanest we have brought stateside, and boasts a mere 38k verified and documented miles. For those who value a peppy commuter that's unique and inexpensive to operate this surely is the ticket. Undoubtedly this eighth-generation Corolla will outlast most new cars on the market, and is a real Japanese Classic you have to see to believe! This understated four-seater is more akin to something set aside in a time capsule than your average fun commuter car and is perfect for someone who cares about running costs and quality than going fast in a quarter-mile drag race.

The interior is in far above average condition. Toyota chose some quality materials and included several power options that make daily use joyful to this day. The view of the road ahead is clear thanks to a low-lying dash and skinny A-pillar. The dashboard is gray in color and lacks and cracks or distortion. You can see the difference in design from vehicles just five years older, and the smooth flowing lines look dare we say modern. Also unlike vehicles produced earlier in the decade, this one also includes an SRS driver's airbag. This Levin features an automatic climate control system that pumps cold a/c that is intuitive to use. This is paramount in a black coupe during these hot summer months and natural ventilation is available through a set of powered front windows. The mirrors and locks are electric and like the OEM audio system, they work flawlessly. The glovebox offers some additional storage and the center armrest can be opened to store a set of sunglasses and some assorted knick-knacks if need be. The seats are almost flawless and are upholstered in a textured two-tone gray cloth. It's quite durable as well and resited any rips, stains, or tears over the years. The carpets and matching door cards are in fine nick and the headliner is clean and tightly upholstered to the roof. Even the plush OEM floor mats are included. located in the sizable trunk for the next owner to use!

The powertrain is responsive, tight, and has been obviously cared for in a prior life in Japan. This FWD two-door is powered by Toyota's 4A-FE. This 1600cc mill is fresh off an oil and filter service and starts up promptly thanks to a new 12v battery. The four-cylinder idles confidently and is mated to a close-ratio five-speed manual gearbox. The transmission shifts properly and lacks any grinding, and feels connected when changing gear. The gearing is such that during interstate use the Levin is unphased and returns impressive MPG. Thanks to a new engine air filter the 4A breathes a bit better. The factory suspension is compliant for daily use and the power steering is nicely weighted and provides plenty of feedback. New Falken tires have been mounted and balanced at all four corners. They quiet down the ride nicely and will provide plenty of year-round grip for tens of thousands of miles to come.
