Spacious is an understatement when you describe Toyota's cabin volume. Heaps of leg and headroom are available even after you pack the cabin full of friends and their gear. The seats are upholstered in a soft light gray cloth. They lack any rips, stains, or bolster wear to note, and the driver benefits from electric adjustable lumbar support and a manually adjustable steering column. This VX limited is nicely equipped with luxury amenities all-around the SUV. Dual SRS airbags are equipped for added safety, which were new for the 1996 model year. The gauges are analog and easy to read at a brief glance, and the dash is clear of any cracking or bubbling. In the glove box you will be treated to the original service records, so start boning up on your Japanese before you purchase if you'd like to have a read-through. The carpets show no signs of stains and have kept in good shape over the years. The same can be said about the door cards and headliner. An optional power sunroof is available to tilt and retract for added ventilation through the cabin. It's also a great source of natural light, for those who are averse to claustrophobia. The field monitor houses a compass and altimeter that works as expected for when you are rabble-rousing off the beaten path. The factory audio was ditched while it was overseas for a Panasonic double din navigation system that is still fully operable. It delivers decent sound quality while modernizing the look of the interior. Automatic climate control works great which blows cold A/C and heat as expected, and you will find the rear air controls to help ensure the passengers are comfortable while traveling in the rear of this SUV. Other amenities on this VX-L include cruise control, an OEM coolbox that works great, along with power windows and locks. Although the power folding mirror function no longer is functioning, you can still adjust the power mirrors and manually fold the mirrors in for tight city parking.

The 1FZ-FE 4.5L I-6 engine powers this rig and is fresh off an oil and filter service. A simple twist of the key and this petrol engine comes to life, thanks to the new 12v battery, and it idles nearly without vibration. Its new battery should last for a few more years to come, and deliver all the CCAs needed to turn over the 1FZ in the dead of winter. The other convenient thing about the 4.5L motor was that it was spec'd in our US Land Cruisers so parts are readily available and inexpensive. Paired to the 1FZ is a 4-speed automatic transmission that is geared perfectly for highway speeds. Shifts occur seamlessly and this massive truck gets up to interstate merging speeds without cause for concern and its peppy around town. The brakes are confident when you need to slow this cruiser to a stop and the power steering is light and easy to articulate. While up in the air, new rear brake pads and rotors were installed by one of our trained techs. The stock suspension is forgiving, and when you drive over bumps or potholes it feels predictable. We installed brand new Falken all-terrain tires at all four corners that will deliver tens of thousands of miles of year-round grip to come.
