Exterior Overview

Toyota was producing several tasty Land Cruisers during the late 1990s. The J95 slotted right into the middle of the range, offering refinement, safety, and capability in a midsize package that was hard to match. This Dark Green Mica (6P3) example is a terrific truck and is fresh off a recent service. Powered by a durable and efficient 3.0L turbodiesel, this TX is offered with only 114k verified and documented miles on the clock. Set off by refinished gunmetal OEM 16″ alloys, a stylish rear spoiler, OEM bashbar, rare spare tire cover, and some aggressive privacy tint, this practical Prado is also handsome. Perfect for families on the go, serious off-roaders, and everything in between, this Japanese Classic does it all.

Interior Overview

The cabin is spacious, nicely optioned, and filled with plenty of power amenities and upgrades. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and houses dual SRS airbags. The center stack is close by and features a storage bin, a Pioneer aftermarket radio, and a simple-to-use automatic climate system. The single-din Pioneer audio sounds decent and the climate system doles out ice cold A/C and piping hot heat. Head, shoulder, and leg room are abundant and the cabin feels larger thanks to the natural light let in by the moonroof. While the unit no longer retracts and tilts, it does seal the cabin from the outside elements. The blue and gray cloth upholstery is in above-average shape. It lacks any major rips, stains, or tears, and the material can be found in the door cards which ties everything together. The middle row slides forward, and the optional third row stows tidily against the D-pillar. An adjustable steering column lets the pilot find the ideal driving position, and power folding mirrors, power locks and power windows all function in typical Toyota fashion, making daily use more enjoyable. The carpets, headliner, and door cards are in fine shape, and aside from a non-functional Field Monitor and a broken cupholder lid, it’s hard to complain about the interior. It even has a spare Royal Clover key that is included with the purchase.

Mechanical Overview

This body-on-frame beast is able to withstand loads of abuse. The intercooled 1KZ is equally as durable, and this 3.0L churns to life immediately courtesy of a new 12V battery and a rebuilt starter. It sounds mean, and a new muffler was installed to keep things that way. New accessory belts keep the electronics properly charged, and a new fuel filter screens unwanted contaminants out of the four-banger. To keep the freshly changed oil level full, one of our trained techs replaced the weary old valve cover gasket with a new one. The 3.0L is linked to a stout automatic gearbox that shifts like a champ. It sends power to both axles, and this Prado is equipped with low-range 4WD and a standard center locking differential. On the highway, the long wheelbase aids stability, and the suspension is soft and handles potholes and road imperfections with confidence. It also slows down well, with standard ABS brakes. It tracks straight as an arrow thanks to a fresh alignment, and the steering is easy to articulate. We refreshed the power steering system with a full rack rebuild. New seals were installed, as well as new inner and outer tie rods, before it was thrown back in. The fluid was fully flushed, too, of course. Lastly, we wrapped the refinished 16″ alloys with new 31″ Falken rubber. The new tires look mean, quell road noise, and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
