1996 Toyota J95 Prado
The J95 Series Prado is the most undervalued Land Cruiser available for import. Receiving high marks for reliability, efficiency, refinement, and capability, it defies logic. This 1996 intercoooled turbodiesel model is a special one, and is equipped with a rare and desirable manual gearbox. This Stellar Blue Pearl over Gray (K14) TX is adorned with 16" refinished aftermarket alloy wheels, a neat set of factory decals, privacy tint, and a front-end conversion from the retro-looking three-door Prado. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs the paint and factory vinyl is in good shape and this eight-seat rig is fresh off a recent service. Boasting a mere 93k verified and documented miles, this turn-key Cruiser is ready to rock! Spacious, safe, and affordable, this year-round hauler would be a beast on the trailhead, beach, or local Cars & Coffee. Japanese Classics spec'd like this are hard to find and quite collectible, so don't miss out!
The cabin is in above-average shape overall and is nicely equipped. ABS and dual front SRS airbags are standard in this model, for those who may be safety conscious. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and the tall ride height and low beltline promote top-tier outward visibility. A large field monitor is mounted atop the center climate vents and displays illuminated information about direction or travel, outside temperature, and even barometric pressure. Below, a touchscreen, Bluetooth-equipped Pioneer head unit sits primed to pump in some tunes. Further down are the simple-to-use digital automatic climate controls that blow cold A/C or piping hot heat on demand. A large glovebox and center console aid storage and those up front enjoy tons of leg, shoulder, and headroom. Power windows, door locks, and even power-folding mirrors function and make daily use more enjoyable. The driver even receives a tilt-adjustable steering column to find the optimal driving position. The seats are in above-average shape and are upholstered in a striking blue and gray textured pattern. The third row can be folded up onto the D-pillar and the versatile middle row can split fold or be folded flat. The material itself also lacks any major rips stains or tears. The headliner and door cards are in good shape and aside from some light carpet staining, it's really hard to complain about this truck!
Under the skin, this J95 is everything you could imagine. A surefooted Full-Time 4WD system with a center locker ought to get the off-road enthusiasts excited. Under the bonnet is an intercooled version of one of Toyota's best-ever powerplants. The 1KZ-TE powering this Prado is fresh off an oil and filter service. It churns over with the twist of a key care of two new 12v batteries we replaced. A Suxon polished exhaust deepens the backbox tone and frees up a couple extra ponies. Thanks to a new fuel filter and new accessory belts the 3.0L runs flawlessly and pulls hard to redline. Torque is fed through the manual gearbox, and rowing gears merging up to highway speeds is a stress-free affair and pretty fun, too! To ensure the driveline stays dependable we replaced the transfercase front output seal and performed a fluid service. New gear oil has also been exchanged in the front and rear differential, too. The front axles were replaced by one of our trained techs and a new front right axle seal was taken care of. The Land Cruiser utilizes a softer suspension design which is ideal for imperfect pavement. The steering is light yet direct and benefits from a new front inner and outer tie rod. The ABS brakes are reassured and have been improved with new rear brake pads. The aftermarket 16's are shod with new 31" Falken rubber at all four corners that will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
