1996 KZJ78 LC Prado
It's hard to think of a truck that's stood the test of time as well as Toyota's 70 series Land Cruiser. Still available from the factory in some foreign markets, this brutish, body on frame behemoth is a true survivor, thanks in part to its unstoppable turbodiesel drivetrain and rugged 4x4 underpinnings. Our 1996 is a swell example of the chassis, and is finished in a slick Black Pearl/Topaz Metallic two tone (1AG). Accentuated by some choice factory decals, OEM rainguards, a factory rear bumper bar and matching refinished N180 factory alloys, there's a lot of good in this Prado and the 130k verified miles on the clock sweeten the deal even more! Showing no substantial defects outside of some expected paint imperfections and cracking gasket material on the fender flares, this KZJ78 is ideal for any buyer looking for a factory fresh rig or a clean blank canvas for a killer overlanding build! A timeless transporter that just gets better with age, this Cruiser is the neo classic sport utility vehicle of your dreams!
Unlike the rather reserved exterior paint scheme, the bold, multicolor cloth interior oozes 90's appeal. Fortunately, this one was well cared for in its prior Japanese life, and the upholstery has been spruced up nicely, thanks to some upmarket leather seat covers. Also in rare form, the vinyl dashboard is clean and crack free, and the factory climate control still works like a charm below, pumping out cold A/C and hot heat at a moments notice. Adjacent to the HVAC, a modern Carrozzeria audio system is fully operational, with Bluetooth functionality should you prefer your own tunes over the turbodiesel's soundtrack. For some added accessibility, all four windows power up and down without a hitch, and the power locks and mirrors work too. Additionally, the driver can tilt the steering column at will and lumbar support is power adjustable to dial in the perfect driving position. With room for five, the Prado excels as a do-anything hauler, but the middle bench can fold forward if cargo space is a priority. The headliner is clean and still taut against the roof, and the plush carpeting beneath has resisted any unwanted rips or tears over the years. Overall, the condition of this cockpit is certainly above average. Save for some wear to the shift selector and pinholes on the underside of the dash, you'd be hard pressed to find another this nice outside of the Australian showroom floors!
Under the bonnet, the 1KZ-TE has been powering this reliable rig for the better part of three decades, and it's not showing signs of quitting anytime soon! Ours has been given a thorough once-over by our trained technicians and starts up with haste, care of 2 new 12v batteries we installed here at the shop. After a fresh oil/filter service, this one starts right up and chugs along pleasantly at idle. A new alternator was installed alongside all new serpentine belts to ensure your accessories are powered reliably as well. Additionally, we preemptively replaced the engine air filter and fuel filter for a bit of a tune up. With the maintenance performed, this one delivers a rewarding driving experience, and the turbodiesel's broad torque curve can be utilized in nearly any scenario, from around town errands, to longer highway drives or treks off the beaten path. The automatic transmission throws power to a selective 4WD system, where front hub lockers can be engaged for a bit of extra traction off the beaten path. To keep everything copacetic for more demanding drives, we went ahead and rebuilt the front hubs, and installed new trailing arm bushings and endlinks in the rear. The suspension glides over road imperfections large and small, and we performed a fresh four wheel alignment on the lift to ensure you'll track straight for the road ahead. Further aiding on and off road traction and safety, all four alloys were wrapped in fresh Falken rubber, sure to keep road noise down and enhance grip and comfort wherever you venture!
