Freshly redesigned with a clean slate approach, Toyota's second-generation Hilux Surf was a serious upgrade of the LN130. Offering more refinement, updated styling, and a new portfolio of drivetrain options this 1996 would make an ideal candidate for a daily driver. Finished in an exceptionally unique Rosso Red, the body is in good shape other than some issues with rear bumper fitment and some minor dings and chips associated with normal use. Powered by a new 3.4L V6, this rig boasts an incredible 50K verified miles. Freshly serviced, and legally imported this striking SUV is capable, reliable and a certified Japanese Classic.

The cabin is spacious, simple, and even includes a couple of nice upgrades. Compared to the prior generation, this model included dual front SRS airbags for the first time. The view of the road ahead is clear, and the tall ride height allows the driver to see over traffic. Besides some light situation on the passenger side, the dash is in good shape and lacks any cracking. The operator also gets an adjustable steering column and functional power windows, locks, and electric folding mirrors. They all work as they should, and A/V is handled by a touchscreen Clarion DVD/Nav unit. Directly above is a working auto climate system with large easy to depress buttons. Two cupholders can be pulled out if necessary and a sizable glovebox and center console improve cabin storage. A set of leather seat covers keep the front and rear seats protected and make cleaning less stressful. They do have some light wear to note as do the carpets but nothing offensive. The headliner is clean and natural light enters the cabin through a disabled sunroof, making the interior feel larger. The door cards are in good shape and are held tightly to their upholstered surfaces. An illuminated off-road style gauge cluster keeps an eye on some important vitals and reads out the exterior temperature. For hotter days the rear glass powers down for additional ventilation and privacy tint does a fair job of reflecting the rays of the sun.

Sharing many components with the US Tacoma, this truck is easy to find parts for and touts its bulletproof reliability. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 5VZ-FE V6 turns over with the twist of the key thanks to a new 12V battery. She idles well and the engine breaths a bit freer thanks to a new engine air filter installed by one of our trained techs. Mounted to an automatic gearbox, the Tacoma can send power to all four wheels when grip is needed or be driven in 2WD for economy's sake. The gearbox works as it should and is adequately geared to our interstates, which move at faster speeds than the Japanese ones. The suspension can handle bumps large and small, and the driver can adjust the damping from a cockpit mounted switch. The brakes are happy to slow this truck down to manageable speeds and the power steering is light which aids the driver in tight parking lots. The wheels are all wrapped in new all-terrain rubber at all four corners. This will last for years to come and provide plenty of year-round grip. We even mounted a new tire to the spare!
