The Hilux Surf is currently our best-selling vehicle and for all too many reasons. It's refined on the tarmac and more than capable off of it! This 1996 SSR-G is a special rig and is offered for sale with a mere 134k verified and documented miles. Packed with options, this spacious and well-appointed turbodiesel five-seater is great for families, weekend trail warriors, and everything in between. This trusty Toyota is turn-key and ready to rock. Finished in a one-off Desert Dune (1A5) over Magnetic Gray two-tone, the body is in good shape aside from some light dings, chips, and scuffs associated with normal wear and tear. The classic styling is accentuated by privacy tint, a set of OEM rain guards, 16" Topy Blows alloys, and a rare OEM rear spare tire carrier. For those looking for a safe, reliable, determined, and refined midsize SUV, this KZN185 is just the right Japanese Classic.

The cabin is in wonderful shape and was cared for in a prior life. A few expensive upgrades are on hand, such as the fitted leather seat covers, and a functional Panasonic head unit. The view of the road ahead is excellent as this tall truck rides far above traffic. The driver benefits from adjustable lumbar support and a tilt-adjustable steering column. Electric windows, locks, and mirrors are all on hand, although the mirrors no longer power fold they do adjust properly. Even the rear glass powers down in the event you'd like additional ventilation. For ease of parking, a powered under mirror unfurls from the rear spoiler to reveal a view of the cars behind you. It works too and is really handy for use in the city. The carpets and the headliner have withstood the past 25 years without sustaining major wear. The same can be said for the door cards, although there were aftermarket tweeters installed at some point. Even the OEM carpet mats are included in the sale, and their inclusion is another sign the old owner cared for this little gem!

Unlike soft-roading tall sedans masquerading as crossovers, this Surf is a real deal body on frame rig. Powered by a gutty 3.0L turbodiesel this truck is fresh off a recent oil and filter service. A new 12v battery aids start-up and will last for another few years to come. It idles confidently and benefits from a new valve cover gasket that we installed while up on the lift. The 1KZ-TE is linked to a slick-shifting automatic gearbox. It's great in traffic, peppy around town, and maintains lower revs on the highway than its manual counterpart. The selective transfer case has a few tricks up its sleeve and is an upgrade over our US 4Runner. Unlike our stateside N185s, many of the JDM versions came with a locking center differential. It is equipped in this example and paired with a low-range 4WD setting, these rigs are nearly unstoppable over loose surfaces. The suspension is capable of handling the rigors of daily use and abuse. it gobbles up road imperfections and offers tons of ground clearance. The power steering is light and on point and the brakes have received a light refresh. One of our trained techs has installed new front pads to bite down on the rotors. Lastly, we mounted and balanced five new Falken all-terrain tires. The new rubber looks killer but more importantly will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
