#5966The 3rd generation 4Runner still roams American roadways after a quarter century. It's no surprise, because the folks at Toyota built a winner from the beginning. A reliable V6, capable 4WD, and a simple and ergonomic interior are hallmarks of this beloved model. The sad thing is, US examples are fetching insane prices, with tons of miles on the clock. For those who know the right places to look and how to maximize their money spent, this 1996 can't be beaten. Finished in a one-off Desert Dune (1A5) over Cashmere two-tone, this Surf is set off by a set of refinished OEM alloy wheels, a subtle rear spoiler, privacy tint, and some OEM rainguards. Best of all, this recently serviced turn key Toyota is offered with a mere 54k verified and documented miles. Ideal for daily drivers, weekend cruisers, and offroad enthusiasts alike, these VZN185s are an incredible value, and ones like this don't come buy that often! The cabin is in above-average shape for a 25-year-old vehicle, and you'd expect that with so few miles logged on this thing. The driver benefits from a clear view of the road ahead, and to find the optimal driving position this Surf comes with a tilt adjustable steering column and adjustable lumbar support. The dashboard is in great shape and lacks any cracking, fading, or distortion. Dual SRS airbags are standard for those riding in the front two seats. To keep abreast of the outside conditions, an OEM Field Monitor sits at the top of the windscreen. It relays info on the external temperature, direction of travel, and even barometric pressure readings. The center stack includes a functional OEM audio system and automatic climate controls. The A/C blows ice cold for this scorcher of a summer we're currently enduring, and the heat is on standby for the winter months. Power windows, electric side mirrors, and power locks all make daily driving more manageable, as well. If you have a furry friend, the rear glass powers down to let out some slobber and brings in some air! Operating as a pseudo-backup camera, the power rear under mirror unfurls from the rear spoiler and works in a pinch if you're parallel parking or squeezing into a tight parking garage. The seats are in above-average shape too, and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. Unlike those lowly American 4Runners, the rear seats four-way recline, which is ideal on longer road trips for rear seat comfort. The headliner is in decent condition, and the door cards and carpets were well cared for in Japan. That's not to say everything is perfect as we wanted to note the power folding function of the side mirrors is inoperable. Still, daily driving instant affected and this is a minor thing in the grand scheme. Even the original owner's manual is still sitting in the glovebox for the American owner to enjoy. For those who value a seamless ownership experience, this Surf is the one. Just like a lion's share of the domestic 4Runners, this one is powered by the legendary 5VZ-FE V6. The 3400cc unit is fresh off an oil and filter service and turns over with the twist of a key thanks to a new 12v battery we installed here in the shop. A new fuel filter keeps unwanted contaminants out of this quad-cam beast and the six-cylinder is linked to a smooth-shifting automatic gearbox. This JDM model is equipped with a center-locking differential for use on loose or wet surfaces. Low and hi range 4WD can also be engaged from inside the cockpit. Acceleration is more than adequate for daily use and sustained highway driving is effortless. It stops quite nicely, too, thanks to a standard ABS braking system. The suspension is predictable and can absorb bumps large and small without breaking a sweat. Very few squeaks and rattles filter into the cabin, which is not something that we can say for a typical tired stateside SUV. The power steering is on point and communicative for a truck and the 16's are wrapped with brand new 31" Falken All-season rubber at all four corners.*California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB compliant first.
