1996 SSR-X Hilux Surf

SOLD

Stock#5136Just like our American 4Runner owners, the Japanese love their Hilux Surfs. We can certainly understand why, as the trucks are nearly identical to our stateside versions. This 1996 SSR-X is finished in a subtle, yet classy Desert Dune Metallic (1A5). The body is in good shape aside from some minor scuffs and dings associated with normal use and is adorned by a set of refinished factory alloys and a set of OEM rainguards. Boasting a mere 98k verified and documented miles, this recently serviced 4x4 has been legalized and is ready to rock. If you desire to own a unique SUV that is efficient, capable, safe, and well designed this surely is the ticket. The cabin is clean, spacious, and full of power amenities. The dash is in good nick and the view of the roadway is clear and commanding. It lacks any cracks or distortion, and two dual SRS airbags are standard. For convenient daily use, the driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column, power windows, locks, and mirrors. These all work as advertised and even the rear glass can be electrically powered down for superior cabin ventilation. The OEM audio works properly and is mounted below a simple to use automatic climate control system. The A/C blows cold which is handy to have for these last few hot months of the year and the heat works just in time for winter. The seats are comfortable and trimmed in a durable gray cloth. Aside from two small nicks on the driver's seat, they lack any major blemishes. On the positive side, the driver does have a lumbar adjustment and the door cards, carpets, and headliner are all in good shape. Even the original owner's manual is still in the glovebox for posterity. Just like US versions, this truck is powered by the 2.7L inline four-cylinder. The 3RZ-FE is fresh off an oil and filter service and starts up promptly with the twist of the key. A new 12v battery has been installed by one of our techs and should last for several years to come. The engine idles confidently and is mated to a slick-shifting automatic. Power can be sent to all four wheels or two based on the driver's preference. Acceleration is peppy and the four-banger breaths a bit easier thanks to a new engine air filter we installed. If the conditions are horrendous outside a 4WD low gear set can be engaged to help you plod along. The suspension is capable of handling the rigors of daily use and abuse. Large and small potholes alike are gobbled up without breaking a sweat, and the dampers feel predictable. The brakes perform with confidence and the OEM alloy wheels have been wrapped in new Falkens at all four corners plus a brand new spare. These all-terrain tires should last for tens of thousands of miles to come and deliver premium grip over loose surfaces. *California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB complaint first.
