Exterior Overview
This Skyline is far more than just a show-worthy stunner. It’s a capable piece of machinery, and plenty practical for daily use with its four-door layout. It’s no slouch either, with responsive turbocharged, manual, rear wheel drive underpinnings, and performance upgrades courtesy of Top Secret Japan. Boasting fresh Brilliant Blue (TV3) paintwork, a NISMO front bumper lip, OEM optional side skirts, and a factory spoiler, this Skyline has looks that kill, and AVS VS-5 alloys coupled with Cusco coilovers complete the aesthetic. The cosmetics are in above average shape overall, and only a few minor nicks and dings are present. Best of all, this 1996 boasts only 71k verified and documented miles on the chassis, making it a savvy investment for an eager new owner. Filled with Japanese racing spirit and a few top dollar modifications, this lovely, OEM plus R33 GTS25-t is fun to drive, easy to wrench on, and a Japanese Classic to the core.
Interior Overview
The interior is comfortable, thoughtfully laid out, and surprisingly spacious. The driver can settle in behind a tilt-adjustable steering column and take command of a snazzy MOMO steering wheel. A passenger SRS airbag comes standard too, for some additional peace of mind. The seats are upholstered in a textured grey cloth. The materials have withstood the better part of three decades well, as they lack any rips, stains, or tears to note! Even the door cards, headliner, and carpets have fared similarly, with the latter boasting a set of OEM carpet mats. Power windows, locks, and folding side mirrors assist daily use, and work well. Featuring a sculpted layout, the dash materials are in good shape, and the center stack frames functional Panasonic audio. Adjacent to the head unit, factory digital automatic climate control pushes out cold A/C and hot heat on command. Save for some minor scratches to the center trim, it’s evident this modified R33 was well cared for in Japan, as we have little to pick apart aside from the trunk shocks not holding weight. Aside from some wear on the driver-side seat bolster and a set of missing rear parcel shelf speakers, it’s hard to complain about the interior, and we feel the new buyer will really like it!
Mechanical Overview
The RB25DET under the bonnet is legendary in its own right, and performance upgrades from Top Secret only work to sweeten the deal. It’s fresh off a recent service too, where we tended to some necessary maintenance to make this GTS25-t turn-key. It cranks over with haste, care of a new 12v battery, and is fresh off an oil and filter service here at the shop. We performed some rehab on the ignition system, replacing all coil pack connectors, and installing new spark plugs across the board. An upgraded Greddy radiator benefits from a fresh coolant flush, and we buttoned everything up with a fresh pair of valve cover gaskets to keep lubricant internal. A Top Secret ECU map runs the brains of the operation, and additional induction is provided courtesy of a Blitz intake and Greddy front mount intercooler. The stock turbocharger exits through an aftermarket downpipe, which is mated to a MOMO catback exhaust. Also of note is the R32 GT-R fuel pump, which works to supply adequate fuel pressure. The larger muffler helps bring out the RB’s intoxicating exhaust note, and looks great protruding from the rear. Swapped in Japan, the five speed transmission is fresh off a fluid exchange, and the ORC clutch is highly desirable and clamps down hard when you are engaging it. It rows through the gears smoothly, and power is put down swiftly to the rear wheels, courtesy of a rear LSD. Cusco coilovers deliver a responsive ride, and the chassis is further stiffened by a front strut tower brace. The power steering is light, direct, and benefits from a HICAS delete to ward off future gremlins. The brakes also slow this R33 to an abrupt stop, despite the ABS being removed in Japan. The AVS’ are wrapped in all-new rubber. Freshly aligned, they look killer against the blue paintwork, and should provide you with miles upon miles of traction, whether you want it or not!
