Chock full of pedigree on the rally circuit, big screen, or even at your local Cars & Coffee, the Lancer Evolution is the true definition of a flagship Japanese Classic. Our 1996 is finished in a rare Icelle Blue (T73) and remains aesthetically stock, retaining its OEM front lip, rally inspired fog lights and standout rear wing. OEM rainguards round off the cosmetic details, and save for a couple light imperfections, this Evo IV is in above average shape overall. The 116k verfied and documented miles on the clock do a lot to drive that figure home, although we did want to note a prior replacement of the hood and front right fender in Japan. Still, the exterior fit and finish is top tier, and this Evo would make for a great weekend cruiser, garage queen, or snowfall shredder! Agile, torquey, and easy to maintain and love, this Evo IV is it!
Mitsubishi pulled out all the stops on this GSR's cockpit design, starting with the wild Recaro couture you notice as soon as you swing the door open. The upholstery is in good nick overall and has resisted most of the typical wear and tear the SR3 buckets succumb to. The pattern extends to the rear bench and door cards, and the headliner and carpet are tidy too. The dash houses a passenger SRS airbag, and the driver's unit was replaced with a sleeker MOMO race steering wheel. The steering column is tilt adjustable to dial in optimum comfort and digital automatic climate control can funnel in cold A/C or hot heat on command. Adjacent Pioneer audio works like a charm and sounds decent for being 27 years young. Power windows, locks, and electric folding side mirrors aid daily use and this GSR is pleasantly easy to daily drive. The rear bench can file in additional occupants if needed, and save for some wear on the driver's bolster there's little to turn your nose up at in this cabin as a whole. Privacy tint keeps any prying eyes away from your goodies and overall we think the condition is indicative of being cared for in a prior life.
Fresh off a thorough recent service and a hoot to drive in all conditions, there's no contending the 4G63's prowess under the hood of this Evolution. She cranks to life care of a new 12v battery, and this 2.0 is backed by loads of good preventative maintenance, including a comprehensive timing belt and water pump service. An oil and filter service was performed, and we sealed everything up with a new valve cover gasket up top. The twin scroll turbocharger makes quick work of getting this 4G up to highway speeds, a Kakimoto exhaust doles out auditory goodness, and a close ratio 5 speed manual box sends power to all four wheels with haste thanks to a new clutch. AYC distributes power as needed around tighter twists and turns and the rally-inspired suspension takes care of larger road imperfections with haste. The steering is communicative and receptive to small inputs, and the ABS brakes do a fine job of bringing this GSR to a screeching halt if needed. The factory OZ alloys are in good shape, freshly refinished, and are wrapped in brand new all-season tires, which should keep you planted to the pavement year-round!
