The crossover is the new sedan, but in 1996 this wasn't really even a segment. Honda took a car platform, added 4WD and some ground clearance, and created the CR-V. Our example is finished in Honda's attractive Adriatic Blue (B74-P) and is accessorized with a set of smoked OEM raingaurads and polished OEM brush guard with yellow fog lights. Aside from a few minor dings and chips the exterior is in good shape and is offered with a mere 72k verified and documented miles. Recently serviced and legally imported, this thoughtful city runabout is inexpensive to own and great on gas. Full of power amenities and room for five, this RD1 is a certified Japanese Classic.

The cabin is spacious, clean, and has some top-notch ergonomics. All the controls are at hand and the view out of the cabin is clearer thanks to the tall ride height. The dash is in good shape and lacks any cracks or distortion. It features a neat-looking Alpine head unit that works properly and sounds decent for its age. The automatic climate control utilizes large, easy-to-grasp knobs and below cold a/c at the moment. A flip-up center storage tray with cupholders can be accessed between the driver and passenger seat and power windows, locks and power-folding mirrors are standard. They all work as they should and make daily driving much more convenient. That's not to say that everything works perfectly as the sunroof is inoperable but it is glass and now only adds a healthy dose of natural light to make the cabin feel larger, instead of sliding open. The gray cloth seats are in above-average shape and still soft to the touch. They lack and major rips, stains, or tears and are supportive over long journeys. The door cards, carpets, and headliners have all been cared for in a prior life and lack any major blemishes. Rear privacy tint has kept the harmful rays of the sun off a majority of the cabin and the plastics are in above average shape. The rear door opens for a wide loading area and even includes the factory picnic table option for serious tailgaters.

For propulsion Honda selected the B20B four-cylinder engine to do the gunt work. At 2.0L this a practically a big block for Honda and the engine is fresh off an oil and filter service. It starts up quickly thanks to a new 12v battery and sets into a smooth idle. Mated to an automatic gearbox, this CR-V features a full-time all-wheel drive to ensure you can put it to task year-round. gearchanges occur seamlessly and the gear ratios are just fine for our US interstates. The suspension is compliant and can handle the abuses of daily commuting and the occasional gravel roads. The upper suspension bushings squeak a touch over heavy bumps but they aren't so bad that they need to be replaced. The brakes are confident and the power steering is nicely weighted. The split-spoke alloys are all rocking new all-season rubber at all four corners and should provide tens of thousands of miles of use down the road.
