The Honda Beat is perhaps the most fun kei-car of the 1990s. That's a big statement, but when you get behind the wheel it all makes sense. With nearly a 9k redline and a set of factory ITB's this engine sounds almost exotic while churning through the gears, but boasts incredible fuel economy and Honda reliability.  This 1991 mid-engine convertible is offered with a mere 48k actual verified miles. Set off by a set of 14" Passage Xcross Sport Alloys and a new Robbins soft top, the body is in good shape aside from some minor dings and scuffs associated with normal use. If its go-kart handling and eye-catching styling weren't enough, this recently serviced turn-key Japanese Classic is also affordable to boot!

The interior has been exceptionally well maintained. Most notably a great set of leather seat covers have been fitted over the factory zebra print cloth. While the factory print is a lot of fun these add a quality extra layer of protection and flow well with the black and gray interior. To match the sporty feel a killer leather-wrapped Nardi 3 spoke wheel replaces the factory piece and matches the clean aesthetic. Under the glove box on the passenger side is a newer Kenwood head unit with USB functions making it more useful than a lot of the radios we see come from Japan. New Polk audio speakers have been added behind the front seats and sound better than any other PP1 we have sold, even at speed. Despite its size, it does have some modern features like power windows. That's not to say everything is perfect as the a/c no longer blows cold and the fuel gauge is inoperable, both are very common issues with the PP1. The gauge cluster is laid out with all the pertinent information easily legible, with a prominent tach located dead center proudly displaying it's 8,500 rpm redline.

The ergonomics are top-notch despite the demure exterior dimensions. By placing the motor behind the passenger compartment, the interior room can be maximized. The gear selector is in the perfect location regardless of your height which makes it an absolute blast to row through. Mechanically the car has been left unmodified from how it left the factory in 1991. The mid-mounted, 3 cylinders, 656cc engine powers the rear wheels giving it phenomenal overall balance. The E07A is fitted with Honda's MTREC (Multi Throttle Responsive Engine Control) system with individual throttle bodies that give the engine its trademark sound. It starts up promptly and is fresh off an oil and filter service. With its high revving nature, it really does feel like you're driving a motorcycle on four wheels and the soundtrack matches, as well. Coming in under 1,700 pounds its bantam curb weight puts Lotus and Miata owners to shame. The clutch is very light and forgiving so cruising around town is a breeze. The Honda 5 speed is one of the best factory gearboxes out there and really has to be experienced to appreciate. Its nimble handling is on full display in the twisties and the braking is insanely immediate. One of our trained techs has replaced the front and rear brake pads in the shop just to ensure it stops on a dime. These fun-loving little cars put a smile on your face every time you turn the key. Plus with its efficient three-cylinder, it makes a decent city commuter just as well as it does ripping through back roads! Two new all-season tires have been installed to keep the Beat planted in the turns and quiet down the ride nicely.
