A dependable SUV is a valuable asset, and Toyota knows how to make a dang good one at that. This 1996 Hilux Surf is nearly mechanically identical to our USDM V6 4Runners, but in sought after "touring" trim with a bespoke Recaro interior, this 76k mile hauler is way more valuable! Finished in a one-off Rampage Black, this truck looks the part and is set off by an optional rear spoiler, LED tail lamps, OEM rainguards and freshly refinished factory alloys. Showing a few paint imperfections from daily use,  the exterior is no worse for the wear for being almost three decades young. This 3rd gen's reputation is already well known here in the states, and if you're looking for the easiest Japanese Classic ownership experience there is, this Surf is the ticket!

It's rare we'd ever call a 4Runner based vehicle luxurious, but the cabin on this SSR-G doesn't disappoint! The Recaro seats are a pricey option in their own right and also offer a significant upgrade in performance as well, allowing occupants to not slosh about on any trail crawling expeditions. Bold woodgrain accent trim contrasts the interior upholstery, and save for some distortion around the glovebox, there's not a whole lot to complain about overall. Modernizing the cabin a bit, a Bluetooth Pioneer headunit sits center stage and the sound quality is above average overall thanks to a door speaker upgrade. Fans of power metal tunes will also appreciate a full DragonForce discography loaded into the internal hard drive. Typically prone to sun fading, distortion and cracking, the dash is in surprisingly good shape and also houses dual SRS airbags for added safety behind the wheel. Automatic climate control is standard, as is Cold A/C and hot heat, and an optional power moonroof can unfurl to funnel in natural ventilation as needed. The optional field monitor is another huge talking point, and offers way more parameters to explore over your typical OEM compass pack. The power windows are all operable, and the locks and electric folding side mirrors work too. For more natural ventilation, the power rear glass can also unfurl alongside an optional power moonroof. Keyless entry comes in handy when your hands are full of shopping bags, and aside from some light staining on the headliner and a flattened drivers bolster, it's hard to find anything to turn your nose up at inside this Surf!

Powered by Toyota's legendary 5VZ-FE, enthusiasts and shade tree mechanics should know that the guts of this VZN185 are no joke. Better yet, ours is fresh off a recent service here in the states, where we chucked in a new 12v battery to aid ignition. That's not all, we're also saving you thousands in initial maintenance as a new timing belt, water pump, and thermostat were installed here at the shop by our trained technicians! New spark plugs were installed while we were in there, and fresh valve cover gaskets seal things up top so you won't leak a drop from our fresh oil and filter service. A professionally rebuilt ECU manages this 3.4 and with the maintenance performed she runs like a top! The automatic gearbox throws power rearward and all four wheels can be engaged on the fly if you encounter some tougher terrain. For really sticky situations, a center locker is also equipped. We installed a new output seal at the transfercase so the next owner need not worry about drivetrain service. The suspension is soft and compliant on all four corners and the brakes are bolstered by ABS if you encounter an abrupt roadblock. The refinished wheels look great and are shod in all new Falken all terrains. The tires look good, keep road noise down, and most importantly are loaded with grip for any future adventures!
