What we have to offer before you, is the ultimate Hilux Surf. Capable and refined, Toyota's 3rd generation Hilux Surf hits the mark every time, but this one has the most desirable driveline! Pairing the brand's legendary 1KZ turbodiesel powerplant with a smooth-shifting manual gearbox, you get a rig that enthusiasts can't keep their hands off of! Finished in a fresh coat of Cavalry Blue and complimented by OEM rainguards, a factory rear spoiler, spare tire swingarm, and refinished OEM alloys, the exterior deserves to be talked about. Save for a few expected paint chips and imperfections along the body, this 25-year-old rig is no worse for the wear overall and boasts a mere 126k verified and documented miles. A battle-tested platform that's stood the test of time, it's no wonder why we call this highly collectible third-generation Hilux Surf a definitive Japanese Classic SUV.
The interior of this blue beauty is finished in a complementary durable light grey cloth. Soft to the touch and assuming an almost corduroy-like texture, the upholstery is in great condition and shows no major defects outside of some expected minor staining and bolster wear on the driver's bucket. The dash is in terific shape and fortunately has resisted any unwanted UV damage or distortion over the years. The cabin is plenty accessible for anyone looking to drive this one daily. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and lumbar adjustment to get comfortable behind the wheel, and the cabin temperature can be dialed in accordingly via functional automatic climate control. As expected, the Cold A/C works like a charm and hot heat isn't too far behind. Adjacent to the HVAC is a classy and modern Mitsubishi audio system. Assisted by some aftermarket Pioneer speakers. the sound quality is surprisingly good and this unit includes digital storage and Bluetooth functionality. The power windows, power mirrors, and power door locks all work as advertised, and the rear glass can slide down at the press of a button to funnel more natural air throughout the cabin. The rear bench seats three additional passengers with ease and offers both reclining and flat-folding capability for maximum versatility. As a whole, the cabin is in above-average shape. The headliner has resisted any serious damage over the years and its clear this truck was cared for in its prior life overseas.
Under the hood, Toyota's 1KZ-TE is a sturdy powerplant that was clearly built to stand the test of time. This 3.0L mill is fresh off an oil and filter service and starts up promptly care of a new 12v battery we installed after it arrived stateside. A new fuel filter aids operation as a whole, and this Surf happily pulls to redline. This truck is capable of sustained highway use and is peppy around town too, thanks to a buttery smooth 5 speed manual gearbox that goes in and out of gear without issues. The driver gains more control of the platform and this combo makes daily driving much more fun! A selective transfercase is on hand if you need to engage 4WD, and we've replaced the output seal to ensure you won't lose a drop of necessary lubrication to the gearbox. New gear oil was then run through the unit to make sure it operates seamlessly. The standard ABS brakes are confident and the power steering makes parking in tighter confines a breeze. The aftermarket Rancho shocks glide over the pavement with ease and the multilink suspension design does a lot for overall ride comfort and capability. Lastly, new all-terrain rubber was installed at all four corners. The meaty 31" Falken tires match the show stopping looks but most importantly will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
