If you're on the hunt for the ultimate hauler, stop right here. This 1996 HiAce offers copious interior space, trademark Toyota reliability, and tons of luxury appointments all within one unique package. Finished in a darling Dark Blue Pearl/Bluish Silver Metallic (2CZ) this eight-seater is set off by OEM rainguards, refinished aftermarket alloys, privacy tint, and some snazzy factory vinyl decals. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs this transporter is in good shape and is fresh off a recent service. At only 82k verified and documented miles, this turbodiesel rig is turn-key and ready to rock with tons of life left in it! For those with kids on the go, adventurous types, and those who need a rock-solid practical daily driver, look no further than this Japanese Classic.
The cabin is in wonderful shape and was clearly cared for in a prior life. Unlike many of these HiAces, this example includes dual front SRS airbags for those who may be safety conscious. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and the centrally-mounted digital climate system is easy to operate and works like a charm. If you prefer more natural ventilation the front windows power down, the side glass pops outward, and even the front sunroof manually tilts upward. Rear occupants have their own separate heating and cooling systems and dedicated climate zone. For those who plan to daily drive electric locks are on hand and a modern Alpine headunit and Amp, Bose speakers and subwoofer combo can belt out the tunes. The old owner must have been an audiophile because the sound quality is far above average! The blue and gray textured seats are another vehicle highlight. The material lacks any major rips, stains, or tears and is supportive on longer drives. The middle row swivels 180 degrees to face the rear and can also fold flat into a pseudo mattress that combines with the front seats and rear bench for a front-to-back sleeping surface. The headliner is in good shape as are the door cards and carpets. The sliding door opens wide for easy entry to the rear. and also has a soft close function to keep your dome light from draining down the battery if you leave it slightly ajar. The hatch opens to six feet and provides a wide berth for additional rear cargo. That's not to say the cabin is perfect as we did want to not the middle and rear sunroof to have lost their functionality. Still, at this age, it's remarkable how well it's held up, and we've even included the owner's manual!
The mid-engine rear drive design is reminiscent of many exotic supercars. And while this one won't out-corner a Cayman S, it does offer better handling than your run-of-the-mill USDM Odyssey or Ford Windstar. The legendary 1KZ-TE that powers this van is fresh off an oil and filter service. The 3.0L churns over quick care of a new 12v battery that was installed here in the shop and will last for a few more years to come. So that the 3.0L started off on the right step we replaced the fuel filter and had the ECU professionally rebuilt. The engine control computer also includes a lifetime transferrable warranty for some added peace of mind. The automatic gearbox shifts properly and sends power to the rear axle. This Super Custom moves impressively well and sails up to highway speeds with ease. Cruising is comfortable on the freeway too with the soft suspension sorting through road imperfections nicely. For those concerned about this heavyweight, new front brake pads work to reel it in from the upper speeds. The steering is light yet on point and new rear lower sway bar links keep this rig composed. The alloys are all shod in new all-season Falken tires. They reduce road noise and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
