This 1995 model sports a fresh coat of Nori Green paint and is set off by a 2″ JAOS lift, Ganador exhaust, wide refinished 16″ alloys, an OEM spare tire swingarm, stylish rear OEM spoiler, and a set of factory chrome taillight garnishes. Aside from some minor imperfections, the body is in good nick, and this V6-powered wonder is offered with only 86k verified and documented miles on the ticker. Interior Overview

The cabin is simple, ergonomic, and filled with OEM and aftermarket upgrades. We love the power rear under mirror, which drops down from the spoiler to reveal a view of obstructions behind the rear bumper, saving you a costly insurance claim. The wood grain Italvolanti wheel adds some contrast to the gray interior hues and complements the center stack trim. A touchscreen Pioneer radio includes Bluetooth hands-free tech, and the automatic climate control above supplies the cockpit with cold AC and piping hot heat. If you prefer more natural ventilation, the rear hatch glass powers down, as do the side windows, and a large factory moonroof can tilt upward or retract. Power mirrors and power locks also function, making daily use more enjoyable. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and aside from some minor lifting by the passenger glovebox, it’s hard to complain about it. A passenger SRS airbag adds some peace of mind for those traveling alongside a dear friend. The moon mist seats are in above average shape and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and an adjustable lumbar support. Rear occupants need not feel left out, as their seats 4-way recline. For additional cargo needs, the rear row has the ability to split fold and tumble forward to create a flat loading floor. The headliner and door cards are in good shape, and the carpet has resisted major abuse over the past quarter century. Even an OEM field monitor still works like a charm and provides useful data when cell service is lost. We did want to note missing rear grab handles and that the power-folding feature of the mirrors no longer works, but they still fold manually. Another added bonus is that the owner’s manuals, maintenance booklets, and a spare key are included with the purchase of this fine Surf.

Mechanical Overview

The body-on-frame construction is key to this model’s longevity. The 5VZ-FE engine is a legend in its own right as well. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 3.4L jolts to life courtesy of a new 12v battery. A new radiator is ready to handle the thermal load, and we exchanged the coolant for new stuff. We also replaced the valve cover gaskets, so that all that fresh oil stays internal to the engine. The V6 creates tons of midrange punch and is mated to a stout automatic gearbox. The pilot can choose to toggle between 2WD and 4WD on the fly, and a low range and center locking differential are on standby should you travel off the pavement. The high speed stability is fantastic. Lifted on JAOS Battlez suspension, the long wheelbase distributes bumps with comfort and confidence. New front lower ball joints, front sway bar links, and front lower control arms were installed while in the shop, and we also refreshed the power steering system extensively. The rack was rebuilt, new fluid was flushed in, and new boots and bushings were replaced. A fresh alignment was performed with new inner and outer tie rods, and this rig tracks straight as an arrow now. It slows down impressively well, too, with ABS standard and new front brake pads and rotors. Lastly, we mounted and balanced four new 32″ Falken tires. The new rubber quells road noise, looks mean, and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come. Handsome, tough, and capable, this Toyota can’t be passed up!
