The angular tough guy exterior of the 70 Series Land Cruiser conveys this model's gutty determination. Finished in a Dark Emerald Pearl, the body and paint are in good shape on this Prado, aside from some light dings and chips associated with normal use. The blacked-out OEM brush guard and OEM rainguards subtly accent this rig, which is offered with only 130k verified and documented miles. Powered by a freshly serviced 1KZ turbo diesel and a spacious, seven-seat interior, this turn-key JDM SUV is ideal for year-round use. Practical and highly collectible, this recently serviced Japanese Classic can be yours today, making for a wonderful family hauler, daily driver, or fun weekend trail rig.
The tall cabin has copious amounts of space and a couple of convenient amenities. While the design of the interior dates back to the mid-1980s the Prados saw several upgrades over their lifespan. A/C is equipped and functional in this one, and the simple to use climate system pipes in boiling hot heat too. Electric windows and door locks make daily use seamless, and a power sunroof is on hand for some additional ventilation. Privacy tint helps to keep cabin temps down in summer, as well. The view of the road ahead is clear and commanding. The dash does have some cracking below the carpet cover, which improves the aesthetic from the damaged surface below. Mounted front and center is an OEM Toyota head unit that is from a later model. It works like a charm and the audio quality is above average. The seats are trimmed in a gray and blue Alcantara . The driver's side even has a lumbar adjustment. The fabric is soft to the touch and in good nick still, lacking any major rips, stains, or tears. The driver's recline handle is broken but we have a workaround taken care of so that it can be adjusted, still. The rare and coveted third-row option is equipped in case you have a couple of rugrats or some friends who are looking to pile in. The door cards do have minor nicks to note and the power mirrors no longer work but the headliner is in good shape. Still, at 25 years old, this truck was cared for in a prior life and it shows.
The Prado is known globally for its tenacity in less than ideal conditions. This fact is well known, but these can be more civil on tarmac than you'd expect. The four-door model boasts a longer wheelbase than the smaller 71/74 series and as such is much more stable at speed. This heavy truck isn't slow by any stretch either, and the 1KZ-TE provides tons of low-end grunt. Acceleration is much improved over the older 2.4L versions and the SUV never struggles to get up to merging speeds. It also doesn't shy away from sustained highway cruising and would be great for a spontaneous weekend trip to the mountains. Fresh off an oil and filter service was a new engine air filter was installed, too while it was on our lift. The four-banger also has new valve cover gaskets, and most importantly, a new timing belt was installed by one of our trained technicians. That should give the next owner some additional peace of mind as they assume ownership. Power is fed through a slick-shifting automatic gearbox to a selective transfer case. Low range is available on-demand and the driver can also engage the locking hubs from inside the cabin. The power steering is light and power-assisted and the brakes have been bolstered by new front pads and rotors. Each of the factory alloys is wrapped in new Falken all-terrain rubber and we have even replaced the spare with a matching unit. The new tires look killer and will deliver tens of thousands of miles of premium grip for years to come.
