Toyota's reputation was built on reliability and toughness. By 1995 this KZN130 generation Hilux was nearly perfected and this SSR-X is a fantastic example of that. Finished in Aztec Blue (8E3) this five-seat truck is offered with a mere 96K verified miles and features Toyota's bulletproof 1KT-ZE turbodiesel. The aggressive aesthetic is backed up by some real offroad credibility, however, the cabin is full of power amenities you might not expect for an SUV of this age. Other than a few minor dings, and chips associated with normal use, this recently serviced and legally imported rig is in good nick and would make for a unique family hauler or offroad play toy.

The cabin has been well cared for and is filled with durable materials and a decent fit and finish. By the end of this generation, Toyota had filled the cabin with some solid equipment. Rarely found, this model has cruise control and a power sunroof; both of which work and are accompanied by power windows, locks, and mirrors. Upgrades to the interior include a Pioneer Roku Navi Lite head unit that is touchscreen capable. The audio clarity is decent for a car of this age and the Hilux also comes with standard automatic climate control. The dash is in good shape, lacking any major distortion or cracking. The same can be said about the headliner, door cards, and carpet which have been well cared for. The seats are upholstered in blue and gray cloth. Soft to the touch, they lack any major rips, stains, or tears and are comfortable on long cruises. The rear row can tilt forward for a larger cargo area and the rear window retracts into the tailgate if you were planning on picking up some lumber at Lowes.

The mechanicals make the Hilux what is it, and are a large reason for Toyota's overall success. Many believe this was the best era for the manufacturer, and it's easy to see why when you look at this model in detail. Starting with the powerplant, the 1KZ-TE is powerful, efficient, and reliable. Fresh off an oil service, the diesel four-banger fires right up with the turn of the key. For the upcoming winter, we have replaced both 12V batteries to ensure the next owner doesn't get stranded in the cold. Mated to an automatic gearbox, the driver can select whether they prefer a two or four-wheel drive setup. The selective transfer case can be adjusted quickly and even has a low range setting. Acceleration is impressive and the transmission shifts seamlessly without any clunking or hesitation. The ride feels assured and this Hilux features Toyotas cutting edge TEMS suspension. From inside the cabin the driver can toggle between the firm and soft suspension settings to suit their desired feel. The brakes are confident and the power steering is light and makes this hauler stress free to park in the city. The Hurricane Racing 16" alloys fit the look of the car and oversized new Falkens are set at all four corners. They should last for miles to come and can handle all the gravel, sand, and snow you can throw at them.

The Hilux is a safe bet for those who desire a rugged and reliable truck to match their active lifestyles. This '95 Hilux would be an ideal choice and this Japanese Classic is no exception.
