The Toyota Hilux Surf always delivers, literally and figuratively. This 1995 Hilux has space for five adults, and their cargo, plus a diesel engine and 4x4 system to get them anywhere they need to go. The body is finished in a Dark Blue Pearl (8E5) and is in good shape other than the normal scuffs, dings, and chips associated with normal use. Offered with only 132K verified miles, this rig features a rare Recaro interior, distinctive alloy wheels, and EGR rain guards to complete the JDM off-road aesthetic.

This Hilux has a spacious cabin, with a few surprising power amenities you might not expect from such a capable truck. The most striking option is specialized Recaro seats. The front buckets have aggressive bolstering and adjustable thigh support. The material, a textured cloth, is in good shape and devoid of any major rips stains of tears. The backbench is upholstered in the same material and this look in a truck of all things is really slick. Besides the power windows, locks, and mirrors these SSR-G trim level SUVs came with an optional sunroof. This unit brings a ton of natural light to the cabin and also helps improve ventilation. When the windows are down not using the automatic climate, EGR rain guards reduce cabin buffeting and allow a nice breeze to filter through. The carpets, door cards, and headliner are all in good shape and match the seats and dash color. Unlike many JDM cars of this era, you actually get two cupholders and some supplemental dash storage beyond the glovebox, in the form of Toyota's multibox. This storage bin located by the radio has area portioned out for business cards, coins and accessories. The rear cargo area can fit tons of gear and also has an electric rear window if you are carrying some 2x4s back from Lowes. That's not to say the interior is perfect as the dash has a crack that has been obscured by a nav mount and the audio is inoperable. Also of note the lower portion of the dash doesn't line up completely flush thus creating some squeaks. The rear roof-mounted grab handles are also missing, however, the overall condition is far better than US 4Runners that may be out there!

The driveline is among the best Toyota has ever produced, delivering a low cost of ownership and bulletproof reliability. This 1KZ-TE four-cylinder turbodiesel was the most desirable engine optioned for this generation Hilux. Benefitting from a diesel specific oil and filter service it happily turns over with a twist of the key thanks to its two new batteries. This 3.0L mill isn't the most refined but has solid low-end pickup. Mated to an automatic transmission and selective 4WD, acceleration is adequate and the gearing is just fine for American interstates. The suspension has plenty of ground clearance and is built for Overlanding even if this truck hasn't seen any proper trails yet. One of our trained techs has replaced the front left tie rod as it had some excess play. The brakes are assured and manage to reign the Surf in from higher speeds when required. The power steering is nicely weighted and the SUV goes where you point it. The gold and polished Epsilon wheels contrast nicely with the deep blue paint and are all wrapped in freshly replaced all-terrain rubber.

Legally imported, and Virginia State safety inspected this '95 Hilux is ready to roll. Its highly stylized interior, classic styling, and off-road capabilities make this SUV a cherished Japanese Classic.
