Exterior Overview
The most appealing SUV we sell has to be the Hilux Surf. Inexpensive to operate, highly capable, safe, and affordable, these lovable trucks are so well rounded. This 1995 SSR-X is a fine example of the first model year of this platform, and is outfitted with a torquey 3.0L turbodiesel and a surefooted 4WD system. Fresh off a recent service, this terrific Toyota is barely broken in, and has logged only 135k verified and documented miles since new. Aside from a few light dings, chips and nicks the Stellar Blue (8L7) paint is in good shape and this handsome five seater is set off by a brand new Eibach lift, chunky 33″ all-terrains, and OEM rainguards. The cosmetics are in above average shape, however we did want to note that Japanese records indicate the right rear door, quarter, and liftgate were replaced in Japan. Ideal for families on the go, off road enthusiasts, and weekend warriors, this model is enticing to all. This Japanese Classic is a true workhorse, and is a determined vehicle that won’t let you down!
Interior Overview
This surf has a spacious cabin that seats five and has a decent amount of space for cargo. The view of the road ahead is unencumbered, and the low lying dash lacks any cracking or fading. Dual SRS airbags are standard and the center stack is within arms reach. The OEM TV/Radio is in wonderful shape and pipes tunes through the cabin. Above, the automatic climate system works like a charm and doles out cold A/C and piping hot heat. A large panoramic moonroof tilts and retracts to supplement airflow, and abundant natural light makes the cabin feel larger. Next to the map lights is a trick OEM field monitor which displays info about the outside conditions should you lose cell service. The moon mist upholstery is in good shape and lacks any major rips, stains or tears. The same material is mirrored in the door cards which are in good nick. Power mirrors, power locks and power windows all work in typical Toyota fashion. The rear glass even powers down in case you have some long 2×4’s to transport. The headliner shows well, as do the soft touch plastics, and aside from some light carpet stains it’s hard to complain about the interior.
Mechanical Overview
The body on frame platform is robust and can take loads of abuse. The same can be said for the engine, the legendary 1KZ-TE. The 1K is fresh off an oil and filter service and springs to life care of a new 12v battery. Like all of our diesels, we installed a new fuel filter and topped off all the fluids for good measure. One of our trained techs rehabbed the four-pot with a new valve cover gasket and half-moon seals. New serpentine belts were also installed to keep your accessories properly powered. The hearty four-banger feels strong as an ox and is linked to a stout automatic gearbox. It shifts properly and makes good use of the diesel’s superb low end. To rehab the drivetrain, we replaced the output seal on the front of the selective transfercase. This gives the driver the option to cruise around in RWD, which maximizes acceleration and fuel economy. On the fly, 4WD can be clicked in, and for off-road escapades, a center locker and low range are on hand. When it arrived at our shop, we chucked on an Eibach lift with new Old Man Emu springs. The inverted strut design handles second to none, and it feels almost OEM. New front and rear sway bar links and bushings, and rear upper and lower control arms were installed prior to its Virginia state safety inspection, which this Surf passed with flying colors. The ABS brakes feel confident thanks to new front pads and rotors, and the power steering system is nicely weighted. The refinished 16″ alloys are all wrapped in new 33″ Falken rubber. The brand new tires match the tough guy aesthetic, but most importantly quell road noise and will provide grip for tens of thousands of miles to come. With a ton of expensive parts and labor under its belt, this Surf is tough, inexpensive to operate, and highly capable on and off the pavement.

CARB certifications will have to be performed within the state. Depending on the vehicle and any existing modifications will affect the pricing. Typically CARB compliance will range between 5-10K.
