We are falling in love with our newest Legal Toyota SUV import. The more we get in the more the model endears itself to us, and this one is a good little Surf! This 1995 turbo diesel is an impressive performer and is equipped with some impressive equipment. Finished in a stately Evergreen Pearl (751) over Silver two-tone, and accented by a set of OEM rain guards and a factory rear spoiler, the body is in good nick aside from some minor dings, chips, and clearcoat fading. This rig is durable, powerful, reliable, capable, and dare we say even refined. Legally imported and recently serviced, this one is a phenomenal five-seat Japanese Classic.

The interior has been cared for in its prior life in Japan and we even have service records and the factory owner's manual still sitting in the glovebox. The view of the road ahead is clear and commanding as this rig sits far above traffic. The dash is in fine shape and lacks any cracks or distortion. As evolving safety standards in Japan go, there were many changes during this time and this Hilux Surf is one of the first SUVs that made dual SRS Airbags standard. Attop the windscreen is a functional gauge suite that includes a barometer, compass, and altimeter so that the passengers are keenly aware of their surroundings. Power equipment is plentiful and includes electric locks, windows, and mirrors. Unlike the US cars, SSR-G models even came with power-folding side mirrors still work to help with tight city parking. OEM audio is still functional and the digital climate control system blows cold a/c. The seats are trimmed in a gray cloth that has a texture similar to corduroy. The driver side has an adjustable bolster and they are comfortable on long trips. The material is in good nick and lacks any major rip's stains or tears other than a minor cut on the driver side of the rear passenger seatback. The carpets, door cards, and headliner are all in good shape and it's clear the cabin has been cared for in a prior life. Additionally, all maintenance records are included in the glove box along with the original owner's manual. That's not to say it's perfect and we wanted to note that the rear retractible backup mirror is nonoperational. The mileage on the chassis is unknown and unverified due to a dealer replacement of the gauge cluster which records indicate was done at 157,554 km (97k miles) with a brand new cluster (currently reads 17k miles) however, since it has had a cluster swap we must sell the vehicle as unknown miles and have price it accordingly.

The mechanicals of the Hilux is what Toyota and off-road performance enthusiasts rave about. Unlike our stateside examples, this truck is powered by the gutty 1KZ-TE turbo diesel. This 3.0L is fresh off an oil and filter service and starts up promptly thanks to two new 12v batteries. These should last for another four years and provide plenty of juice to start this massive four-banger, even in the dead of winter. The engine idles confidently and is mated to a selective transfer case. Acceleration is impressive, especially off the line. A center locking differential is one of the most valuable upgrades over the old KZN130 trucks that this model replaced. Low gearing is also available and if the driver wants to maximize MPGs, they can select 2WD. The automatic transmission shifts seamlessly and is built to withstand the rigors of daily use. The TEMS adjustable factory suspension was cutting edge at the time and the SSR-G trucks received it as standard equipment. The driver can adjust suspension firmness on the fly and this one rides quite nicely on the tarmac. The brakes are confident and the power steering is properly weighted and provides more feedback than most trucks we sell. The split spoke factory alloys are all wrapped in new all-terrain tires. They will provide tons of year-round grip even on loose surfaces and will last tens of thousands of miles to come.
