1995 Toyota Chaser Tourer V
Available for: $26,995
Throwing a sportscar drivetrain in a sedan is never a bad idea. A Supra drivetrain is even better, and this 1995 Chaser is equipped with a real-deal manual gearbox and the legendary 1JZ-GTE powerplant. Finished in a classic White (040), the body is in good shape aside from some routine dings, chips, and scuffs. Set off by an OEM optional front lip, side skirts, and rear spoiler combined with classic proportions and flowing lines the styling is beloved by nearly all. Notable repairs in Japan include a new left front fender. Besides blistering performance, this stellar Toyota has room for five, and a bevy of power equipment and safety systems. Offered with a mere 50k verified and documented miles this collectible, reliable, and performance-oriented JZX90 is a purebred Japanese Classic.
Inside the cabin, you'll find some wonderful appointments and plenty of features. The driver receives an adjustable steering column and power windows, locks, and electric folding mirrors. All these items work, aside from both passenger side windows, and make daily use super convenient. Unlike most vehicles of this era, a driver-side SRS airbag is there for a little bit of extra reassurance when behind the wheel. The seats are above average condition in this sedan and lacks any major imperfections such as rips, stains, or tears. The soft blue and gray cloth is comfortable on long cruises and adds a nice bit of contrast to the cabin. The OEM audio and A/C system are centrally mounted and works as they should with cold A/C supplying the cabin for the few remaining hot days of the year. There is a center cupholder for the front occupants and a sizable glovebox and center console for additional storage capacity. The headliner and carpets have resisted major abuse and the door cards have held up well too. That's not to say the cabin is perfect as there is some light wear noted to the A and D pillar trip and some light leather wear on the e-brake. Still, at 25 years of age, it's obvious this car was cared for in a prior life and the next owner will surely appreciate that.
The engine and transmission, simply put, make this car. The chassis is sturdy and neutral as well, and the whole package is super composed. The 1JZ-GTE is fresh off an oil and filter service and starts up promptly thanks to a new 12v battery we installed here stateside. The engine runs nearly vibration-free and is connected to a factory five-speed gearbox. Shifts are direct and the manual doesn't have any issues slotting into gear or grinding. Power is sent to the rear wheels and acceleration is impressive. Thanks to a new engine air filter the 1JZ breaths a bit freer and returns halfway decent fuel economy when off boost. The handling is also reassured and the 3300lb four-door is well balanced overall. The brakes are confident and the five-spoke Lexus alloys are all wrapped in new rubber at all four corners. They quiet the ride down nicely and will provide plenty of year-round grip for tens of thousands of miles to come.
