Having staying power like the 70 series is not easy; these rigs are beloved for their bulletproof reliability, tough 4WD drivetrain, and iconic styling.

Exterior Overview

This 70 Series Land Cruiser is a retro ride, but this dinosaur is still produced and sold today in 2025. Having staying power like this is not easy; these rigs are beloved for their bulletproof reliability, tough 4WD drivetrain, and iconic styling. Finished in a classic Black over Light Khaki Graphite, (22Z) this boxy beauty queen is set off by refinished 15″ OEM alloys, chrome mirror caps, and a useful polished roof ladder. Aside from a few dings, chips, and scratches the paint is in fine nick for a 25-year-old truck. Boasting loads of recent maintenance work including a new timing belt and water pump service, this overlander is offered with only 129k verified and documented miles on the ticker. Whether you need a year-round family hauler, cool campsite crawler, or old-school daily driver, this Japanese Classic has you covered. Collectible, efficient, powerful, capable, and inexpensive to service, how can you go wrong?

Interior Overview

Improved over the years, this spacious cabin includes a number of surprising electric options. The tall, upright windscreen is great for outward visibility and headroom within the cockpit and the Nardi woodgrain wheel adds an upscale touch. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and electric lumbar support to find the ideal driving position. Power windows, power locks, and power mirrors all work in typical Toyota fashion making daily use more enjoyable. For winter time this rig pumps piping hot heat through the cabin and A/C is on hand for the summer ahead. The rear side glass also pops outward for increased airflow. The seats are upholstered in a blue and gray cloth. Soft to the touch, the material lacks any cracking or fading and a desirable third-row option was spec’d from the factory, bumping capacity to seven. The headliner and carpets are in good shape and the door cards have withstood the past 25 years without sustaining major abuse, aside from a small cut on the passenger front door plastic. The rear split barn doors open wide for easy loading and the cargo area is in good shape. Aside from some dashboard cracks and a nonfunctional headunit, it’s hard to complain about the interior at all!

Mechanical Overview

After 25 years on the road, most vehicles could all use a little sprucing up. We have gone above and beyond in this respect, and this 70 Series benefits from some of the most expensive service you can perform. For instance, the pesky timing belt and water pump service was just taken care of, and these components are good for the next ten years or 100k km. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 3.0L churns to life thanks to two new 12v batteries. A new fuel filter, engine air filter, and new intake manfold gaskets work to extract the maximum power from the 1KZ-TE, and a new valve cover gasket and half moon seal ensure the oil level stays on full. It maintains proper thermal efficiency thanks to a new aluminum radiator, thermostat, and coolant flush. The 1K pulls hard to redline and sends power through a stout automatic gearbox. The auto makes good use of the low-end grunt and this rig sails up to highway speeds, despite being as aerodynamic as a brick. The selectable transfer case allows the driver to choose between 2WD and 4WD. The transfercase was rehabbed with a fluid change and we also switched out the old fluid in both differentials. The trucks long wheelbase pays dividends on the highway, and four new Ironman 4×4 shocks ride like a dram. For state inspection, we also replaced the rear end link bushings before we mounted and balanced new 31″ Falken tires. The new rubber looks mean, reduces road noise, and should last for tens of thousands of miles to come. The brakes are responsive and the power steering is light and on point. Turn key and ready to rock, this Land Cruiser is a bonafide killer ride.
