The 70 Series Land Cruiser Prado is a fan favorite here at the dealership, and for good reason. Rambo-esque styling, comfortable and spacious interiors, and a robust turbo diesel powertrain all contribute to this platform's desirability. Additionally, the 135k verified and documented miles on this 1995 KZJ78 make it a real bargain on the market, compared to other classic SUV offerings. Finished in a one-off Pitch Black Pearl and accented by OEM rainguards and refinished 16" Toyota alloys, this boxy cruiser looks the part and is fresh off a recent service here in-house. For daily duty, the occasional Cars & Coffee, or a spontaneous off the grid excursion, this Japanese Classic is the right truck for the job.
Compared to the boldly styled exterior, the interior of this Cruiser is surprisingly composed, up-market, and comfortable for all 5 passengers it could seat. The factory patterned cloth upholstery has withstood the better part of 3 decades without succumbing to excessive wear and tear. The dash is unobtrusive to optimize legroom up front, and the vinyl dash cover has resisted any serious damage outside of a hairline nick atop the passenger side. Nestled in the center stack, Eclipse touch screen audio works like a charm, and an adjacent climate control system is intuitive to operate with both cold A/C and hot heat on tap as we trudge into the more seasonal months. To aid driver comfort, the steering column is tilt adjustable and power lumbar adjustment is built into the driver's bucket as well. Interior refinement is also improved with a sleek Nardi woodgrain steering wheel to complement the factory faux wood trim. All four power windows are fully operable, the rear glass pops out manually, and a power moonroof is on hand to let in a crisp fall breeze. Additionally, the power locks and power mirrors work as advertised. The headliner is taut against the roof and the remaining interior upholstery is in above average condition. Overall, it's clear this Prado was well cared for in a prior life, and we've even retained the original owner's manual to further preserve the history of this classic cruiser.
While the 70 series styling earns high marks from onlookers, real drivers know the 1KZ-TE under the hood is the main appeal of this truck! A punchy, 3 liter turbodiesel beast, ours is fresh off a recent service by our trained technicians and cranks over with haste care of two new 12v batteries. From there, we replaced the leaky old valve cover gasket with a new one and performed a fresh oil/filter service to ensure you won't come up short on lubricant when needed. A new fuel filter rids your diesel from any unwanted contaminants and with the maintenance performed this 1K feels healthy as a horse and pulls strong all the way to redline! The automatic transmission throws power rearward and if the going gets tough 4WD can be deployed alongside automatic locking front hubs for ideal traction. With a classic 4x4, maintenance is key, and we've rebuilt the transfercase, rear differential, and both front hubs with new bearings to ensure you won't be left stranded out on the trails. To shore up the handling a hair, we installed new rear panhard bar bushings, trailing arm bushings, and installed a steering damper to help this 70 feel more composed at higher speeds. The brakes do a fine job at bringing this box to a screeching halt, and to further aid traction and reduce road noise, we've mounted four new Falken all-terrains to deliver plenty of grip when needed most!
