Exterior Overview
New for late 1995, the third-generation Surf debuted and was an instant success. With a sterling reputation for reliability and off-road prowess, the N180 series improved the passenger experience and added a healthy helping of safety items. This SSR-X model is powered by a legendary turbodiesel engine and is fresh off a recent service in the our shop. Offered with only 105k verified and documented miles on the clock, this 4×4 is ready to hit the road, may it be paved or otherwise. Featuring handsome styling, this Plasma Blue (F9T) Toyota proves beauty is more than skin deep. Set off by refinished factory alloys, amber fog lamps, an aggressive rear spoiler, OEM bash bar, and a factory spare tire swingarm, the body is in good shape aside from some light dings, chips, and scuffs. Refined enough for daily duty, these year-round SUVs are versatile enough to shuttle the kids to school, yet determined enough to conquer some wicked wheeling off the beaten path. Efficient, powerful, and inexpensive to operate, this Japanese Classic is a jackpot!
Interior Overview
The cabin is ergonomically designed, with some decent power equipment and safety options. The dashboard is in fine shape and lacks any distortion or cracking. The driver and passenger can both reach and adjust the automatic climate controls and benefit from dual SRS airbags. The pilot can find the optional driving position thanks to a tilt-adjustable steering column and these optional seats have integrated drivers’ lumbar support, which can be adjusted with a push of a lever. Power windows supply fresh air to the cabin and for those living in more seasonal climates, A/C and heat work like a charm. Power mirrors and power locks make daily use more enjoyable and the OEM audio functions too. The Moon Mist colored cloth is free of any major rips, stains, or tears and is overall much better than any USDM example we come across. The rear bench 4 way reclines to improve passenger comfort and it also tumbles forward and fold flat to increase cargo room. The matching door cards are in good shape as are the carpets and even the owner’s manual is included with the purchase of this lovely truck. That’s not to say the cabin is perfect as we wanted to note that two of the five LED 4×4 dash lights have stopped functioning.
Mechanical Overview
Built like a truck, this body on frame bad boy is able to take a licking and keep on ticking. The same can be said for the 1KZ-TE engine, which is a resilient powerplant to say the least. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the four-banger churns to life promptly thanks to two brand-new 12v batteries. We always chuck in a new fuel filter on these 1Ks, and while we had the hood up we installed a new engine air filter. The electronics will remain properly powered thanks to new accessory belts and thermal management is maintained thanks to a fresh coolant flush. The 3.0L has been refreshed by one of our trained technicians and benefits from a new valve cover gasket and a new half-moon seal. The four-banger is mated to a stout automatic gearbox. It makes good use of the prodigious low-end torque and shifts just as it should. The selective transfercase is in good working order and not only has high and low 4WD, but an optional center locker to fix the power 50/50 front and rear. Off-road we all know the Surf is a beast, however its quite civil over the pavement with its multilink rear suspension. New upper control arms were installed for state inspection and we also replaced the front and rear sway bar links. The ride is connected and comfortable and the power steering is light and on point. The ABS brakes sop this rig is a jiffy and grip comes from four brand new 32″ Falken All Terrains. Freshly aligned, the new rubber will quell road noise and last for tens of thousands of miles to come.

CARB certifications will have to be performed within the state. Depending on the vehicle and any existing modifications will affect the pricing. Typically CARB compliance will range between 5-10K.
