The KZN185 Hilux Surf is a top performer in many different respects. Its peppy, responsive, capable, and best of all, touts top-notch Toyota reliability. This 1995 SSR-X is finished in Stellar Blue (8L7), and offered with only 128k verified and documented miles. The body and paint are in good nick overall aside from some light dings, and chips associated with normal use. A set of factory rainguards, refinished OEM alloys, and factory roof spoiler subtly set off the all-business aesthetic and this truck turns more than a few heads. Recently serviced and legally imported, this Toyota would make for a unique family hauler or fun, center-locked weekend trail rig. No matter how its next chapter unfolds, this tough, turbo-diesel five-seater drives like a dream and is turn-key ready to rock.

The cabin is clean, spacious, well-optioned, and even sports a few upgrades. We love the OEM Toyota steering wheel upgrade and Gather's headunit that were installed overseas. They modernize the cabin and look sharp. The dash is in good nick, and lacks any cracking or distortion. Dual front SRS airbags add a level of reassurance to those riding in the front seats, and the view of the road ahead is clear and commanding. The automatic climate control is at hand and blows cold A/C for the upcoming summer, and hot heat for this time of year. Electric windows, power locks, and mirrors make daily use enjoyable. Even the rear window unfurls into the tailgate in case you have a canine companion in tow. The gray cloth seats are in good shape and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The driver even receives manual lumbar support! The rear seats recline and even fold forward to create a psuedo-sleeping surface. The carpets, headliner, and door cards have resisted major abuse over the years and have held up well. That's not to say everything is perfect as the center console has a crack and there is some light soft-touch leatherwear of note.

The drivetrain is a darn good one and known to be nearly bulletproof. Powered by the legendary turbo diesel 1KZ-TE, this rig is fresh off an oil and filter service. It starts up promptly thanks to a new 12v battery we installed in our shop, and one of our trained techs replaced the valve cover gasket to ensure the four-banger stays topped up on oil. The 3.0L is connected to a selective transfer case and center locking differential so that even the toughest of inclement conditions can be tackled with confidence. The slick-shifting automatic sends power to two or four wheels depending on the driver's preference and the platform feels confident and predictable at higher speeds. While in the shop we rehabbed the driveline and installed two new front axles. The truck rides great and is maneuverable thanks to power-assisted steering and isn't so massive that city use is cumbersome. A new ABS sensor keeps the brakes primed for quick use and the midsize SUV stops with ease. The factory alloys were refinished in a deep gray and are all wrapped in new 32" Falken Rubitreks. The new all-terrain rubber looks killer and will be able to handle all the weather you can throw at them for tens of thousands of miles to come. We even installed a matching spare for good measure!
