Stock #6220Back in 1995, the Hilux Surf was one of the best midsize SUVs you could buy globally. Unfortunately, the US lost out on its legendary diesel engine, but alas, it can be yours now. To sweeten the deal, this truck also features a manual gearbox, for the 4x4 purists. Finished in a fresh coat of one-off Magnolia White, this SSR-X is set off by refinished OEM alloy wheels, an aggressive factory rear spoiler, and an OEM spare tire swingarm. Aside from a few light blemishes, the body is in good shape, and this rig is fresh off a recent service. Having logged a mere 126k verified and documented miles on the clock, this five-seater has tons of life left in it. Cool, capable, and collectible, this Japanese Classic can do it all. For those who value reliability, performance, and efficiency, this sports utility will perfectly fit the bill! The cabin is in above-average condition and was cared for in a prior life overseas. Unlike many of these Surfs we see, this one lacks the typical dashboard cracks we are accustomed to seeing. It only gets better from these as the cloth upholstery is in above average shape too, and lacks any rips, stains, or tears aside from a small hole on the driver seat bottom. The driver's seat has adjustable lumbar support and the middle row can tumble forward to create a flat loading floor. For daily use, power windows and locks work as they should and the steering column is tilt adjustable. The same can be said for the heat and A/C which provide relief from the outside elements. To jazz up the cabin a RAZO wood grain shift knob and matching wood grain steering wheel were installed in Japan. The Japanese owner also installed a Kenwood head unit which can adequately drown out your kids and friends in the back seat The headliner is in good nick as are the door cards and carpet. That is not to say the cabin is perfect as we wanted to note the power mirrors have to be manually adjusted at this point, but that shouldn't be much of an inconvenience, as once they are set they are good to go!The platform is shared with our US 4Runners, so parts and upgrades are plentiful and inexpensive. The 1KZ-TE powering this rig is one of Toyotas best designs ever, and that's saying something! Fresh off an oil and filter service the 3.0L churns to life care of two new 12v batteries. To keep this driveline running tip top, a new fuel filter and engine air filter were installed. The diesel pulls hard to redline and the manual gearbox makes good use of the prodigious low-end grunt. Gear changes are rewarding and the manual lacks any hitches or grinds. The selective transfercase allows the pilot to choose on the fly between two and four wheel drive. The T-case was rehabbed with a new front output seal and is intuitive to use. For low traction scenarios, a 4WD low setting is available, too. The Surf is geared properly for the interstate, and highway cruising is made more comfortable thanks to new shocks installed all around to smooth out the ride. We also replaced both rear upper trailing arms. The brakes feel confident and the power steering is light, yet on point. The wheels are wrapped in new Falken all terrain rubber. The tires will last for tens of thousands of miles to come thanks to a fresh alignment and quiet down the road noise a touch as well. Turn key and ready to rock, this super Surf is a special little SUV! *California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB compliant first.
