This 1995 Hilux Surf is a stunning five-seat SUV. Rocking a fresh coat of Cavalry Blue paint, and set off by a set of refinished alloy wheels and 31" all terrains. The body is in good nick aside from some light dings, and prior repairs in Japan including a replacement hood. Offered with only 118k verified and documented miles, this recently serviced rig is turn-key and ready to rock. Packing a punchy turbodiesel and impressively well-cared-for cabin, this timeless Toyota would make for a killer daily driver or fun weekend cruiser. Unique, capable, and collectible, this TRD-inspired KZN130 is a Japanese Classic and won't last long.

The cabin is about as nice as we ever see. While these models are prone to dash cracking and plastic wear, this one shows little if any. The view of the road ahead is clear and commanding and the gauges are easy to read, and the switchgear is close at hand. It even boasts a front cupholder, cold A/C, and an OEM audio system that all work as advertised. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, electric locks, mirrors, windows, and back glass. All these standard features work well and make daily use enjoyable. The upholstery and door cards are in above-average shape. The soft contrasting cloth lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The headliner also has withstood the test of time and as a whole, it's really tough to nitpick this example.

Under the bonnet is one of the most legendary Toyota power plants ever produced, the 1KZ-TE. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 3.0L jolts to life care of two new 12v batteries we installed in our shop. To keep the engine topped up, we replaced the old valve cover with a new one. New serpentine belts were installed too, and the 1KZ purrs like a kitten. The four-cylinder is linked to a slick-shifting automatic gearbox. It makes good use of the broad torque curve and a low-speed range, with 4WD low and high available when the going gets tough. Acceleration is impressive and the Surf can easily sustain highway speeds. The suspension is predictable and the ride quality is above average thanks to the new shocks we installed at all four corners. The inner and outer tie rods were also replaced for good measure and the suspension now feels fresh as a daisy. The brakes are confident and the power steering is on point. To complete the reconditioning new 31" Falken all-terrain tires were mounted and balanced all around. They not only look great but will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
