The HiAce holds a special place in our hearts at Japanese Classics. They provide the capability of a truck, the refinement of a luxury sedan, and the storage space of a Winnebago.

Exterior Overview

The HiAce holds a special place in our hearts at Japanese Classics. They provide the capability of a truck, the refinement of a luxury sedan, and the storage space of a Winnebago. This 1995 would make for a wonderful daily driver, cool campsite cruiser, or fun family runabout. Packing a powerful turbodiesel mounted midship and class-leading 4WD, this practical hauler would be ideal for year-round use. Finished in a lovely Oyster Pearl over Topaz (2AX), this eight-seater is set off by refinished OEM 15″ alloys, OEM rainguards, and a stylish rear spoiler. Aside from some dings, chips, and scuffs associated with normal use, the paint is in good nick, and this rig is fresh off a recent service. Having logged only 87k verified and documented miles on the clock, this terrific Toyota has loads of life left in it. Practical, dependable, and unique this Super Custom Limited is one heck of a deal!

Interior Overview

The cabin layout maximizes passenger comfort and storage options. The mid-engine design also lends itself to premium outward visibility so that the driver can comfortably park, change lanes, and maneuver this van. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and is in good nick overall. This HiAce includes a few desirable and rare factory options. The digital backlit gauge cluster looks awfully cool and works like a charm. A power driver seat and electrically adjustable steering column were also spec’d on this one, which allows the pilot to find the ideal driving position. A Kenwood head unit supplies the cabin with tunes, and looks a lot better than the tired OEM unit. Electric mirrors, power locks, and power windows all work in typical Toyota fashion making daily use more enjoyable. Hardly seen, the CleanAce air purifier is mounted behind the passenger seat, filtering air within the cabin. The seats are trimmed in a cognac-colored cloth. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears and are soft to the touch. The middle row captains chairs can swivel 180 degrees to face the rear and the back row slides fore and aft. The middle and rear seats also can be laid flat to create a pseudo mattress to catch some sleep. If you want to sleep under the stars, this is the van for you. A massive panoramic moonroof can retract fully to expose the heavens above. The front and rear moonroofs also tilt up to supply some additional ventilation. The headliner and door cards are in good shape and the carpets haven’t suffered any major abuse over the past three decades. Even the OEM carpet mats are still on hand. Aside from a nonfunctional power-folding passenger side mirror, it’s hard to nitpick the cabin as this hauler was clearly cared for in a prior life overseas.

Mechanical Overview

The HiAce features a Full-Time 4WD and a legendary turbo diesel engine. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 3.0L churns to life care of a new 12v battery. To keep the oil level on full, one of our trained techs has replaced the weary old valve cover gasket with a new one and installed a new half-moon seal for good measure. A new fuel filter was installed to keep unwanted contaminants out of the engine, and the four-banger feels healthy as a horse as it pulls to redline. The automatic gearbox makes good use of the low-end grunt and sends power to both axles. The FullTime 4WD can handle beach outings, snow, and sand with confidence. The suspension is soft and gobbles up potholes with ease. The small wheelbase pays dividends when parking or maneuvering in the tight confines of a city. The power steering is light and on point, thanks to a fresh alignment, and the rear sway bar link bushings were replaced for state inspection purposes. The brakes feel confident and grip is handled by four new Falken all-terrain tires. The new rubber looks killer and most importantly will last for tens of thousands of miles to come. Turn key and ready to rock, this van is the coolest ride on the block!
