The worldwide success of the WRC racing series in the 1990's pushed automakers across the globe to develop cutting-edge race cars that could perform on the street if need be. For the enthusiast market, this meant only one thing. Homologation model rally cars. At the forefront of the street-legal rally car movement was none other than Subaru's Impreza WRX STi Type RA. A mouthful on paper sure, but on the tarmac these GC8 STi's are equally as fantastic performers. Our 1995 Type RA is stripped down from the factory and offered for sale with only 92k verified/documented miles, making this a great contender for a new life stateside. Finished in Subaru's Feather White (230) the exterior shows well, with only a few expected dings, chips, and scuffs present from off-tarmac excursions in Japan. Records indicate a replacement of the left rear door, but going off of appearances this RA was able to take a licking and keep on ticking. Aside from an aftermarket front mesh grille, the bodywork includes a fair amount of rally inspired OEM accoutrements, including a larger rear spoiler, and a desirable factory roof vent. Rolling on a set of complementary 16" gold OEM alloys this sleek sedan has looks that kill, especially for being 25 years young. For rally fans and street car enthusiasts alike, the GC8 Type RA is a Japanese Classic any motorhead will appreciate.

The cockpit is clean and follows suit with the race inspired exterior. While most RA's are found with manual windows, this version left the factory with power units, which all work without issue and should make the daily driving experience a bit easier for the next US owner. The dash and door cards are trimmed in a sleek black vinyl and show no major signs of cracking, or sun fading, although we wanted to note some light peeling along the top of the door cards, typical of GC8's of this vintage. The factory seats are well bolstered and trimmed with alcantara inserts. The factory upholstery is free of rips, tears, or stains, and aside from a couple period correct cigarette burns it's clearly held up well over the years. The lower dash trim is in equally good nick and houses an easy to use automatic climate control unit, with Cold A/C and hot heat on demand. In an attempt to shed some pounds, RA's were never optioned with factory audio, which shouldn't be an issue as the Subaru rumble is much more interesting to listen to. Optional power windows and mirrors work as expected, and the rest of the interior materials are nothing to scoff at condition wise. Aside from some expected wear to the center console and factory Nardi steering wheel this GC8 was clearly cared for in its prior Japanese life. An intercooler water spray button allows you to cool down charge temps on demand, and the driver benefits from a tilt adjustable steering column and a fully controllable center differential dial to further control the performance driving dynamic. We've even retained the original carpeted floor mats to further protect your Subaru investment!

Under the hood, the STi tuned EJ20G is on full display. Not only does this platform share a fair amount of parts with later USDM STi's, this one is recently serviced in-house and runs like a top! The engine cranks over swiftly, care of a new 12v battery, and idles confidently. A fresh oil and filter service ensures you won't lose a drop of lubrication, new spark plugs and a fresh ignition coil keep this one running right as rain for the drive ahead. To say this car is quick is an understatement. This RA rockets from light to light and really feels at home in the backroad twisties, thanks to a close-ratio 5 speed manual gearbox. Of course, no Subaru is complete without its signature burble, with a 3" catback exhaust, aftermarket header, and downpipe allowing a few extra ponies at the wheels as well. With DCCD on deck, you can adjust the torque distribution from the center differential as well. New shifter bushings keep the gear selection tight and direct, and new coilovers on all four corners allow the suspension to soak up any on or off road imperfections you may encounter. A factory strut tower brace and Cusco front member brace adds some additional stiffness to the chassis, and this compact sedan drives like it's on rails! The power steering is direct and light for day to day driving, and we've even mounted and balanced new rubber at all four corners to deliver plenty of grip for wherever this race-ready sedan takes you.
