The N130 Hilux Surf is an all-time great SUV design. The angular and rugged styling, paired with a bulletproof 3.0L diesel and 4x4 system was a perfect combination. This late 1994 model is offered with a mere 137K verified miles, and boasts a real-deal manual gearbox! Accented by an OEM polished brush guard, spare tire cover, rain guards, and privacy tint the body is in good shape other than some normal dings, scuffs, and chips. Finished in a stunning Dark Plue Pearl (8E3) this recently serviced and legally imported rig is a certified, turn-key Japanese Classic.

The interior layout is a bit simple and spartan by design but particularly spacious. Power equipment includes functional electric locks, windows, and mirrors. They all function and the driver even gets an adjustable steering column. The ride height and large front windscreen lend themselves to a commanding view of the road ahead. A sizable glovebox and center console aid storage upfront, and there are even two cupholders which is hard to come by. The OEM audio was ditched for a Kenwood head unit that works as it should. The dash is in good nick, lacking any cracks or distortion. The seats are upholstered in a textured gray cloth. The material is durable and still soft to the touch after nearly three decades. The front and rear seating surfaces are in an above average shape lacking any major rips, stains, or tears. The same material is found in the door cards are nearly perfect. The headliner and carpets are clean to boot, and it's obvious this rig was cared for in Japan. The rear row can fold forward to maximize the cargo area, and the rear glass is powered for additional ventilation.

The mechanicals are simple but beefy. The heart of the beast is Toyotas famed 1KZ-TE 3.0L turbodiesel. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the four-banger fires up quickly with the twist of the key. While the motor does lack some refinement compared to the Land Cruiser's straight-six, the 1KZ makes immense torque and returns some impressive fuel economy. It idles nicely and benefits from a coolant flush performed by one of our trained techs. Mated to a manual gearbox, this Surf is about as fun to drive as any SUV we sell. The close ration 5-speed unit runs through the gears with ease, lacking any hitches or grinds. A selective transfer case is also standard, and the driver can choose between 2WD or 4WD if the going gets tough. There is also a low gear setting if you really get deep into the muck. The suspension feels predictable, and the brakes and steering are typical Toyota. The alloy wheels are all wrapped in new all-season rubber. The new Falkens will last for quite a while and ensure a premium year-round grip.
