Passenger vans like the Toyota HiAce never existed here in the US, and its a shame frankly. Our domestic offerings, full of cheap plastic and roll down windows, pale in comparison with their Japanese counterparts. Mechanically this 1994 Toyota Hiace SuperCustom features one of Toyota's most reliable turbodiesels, the 1KZ-TE, 4WD, and has more interior amenities than vans twenty years newer. Offered with only 89K verified miles, the body is finished in Gray Tri-Coat Metallic (24T) and is in good shape other than the normal dings, scratches, and scuffs associated with normal use. The custom HOTROD aero, low running costs, and luxurious appointments make this a Japanese Classic you won't want to miss out on.

The cabin of this eight-seat hauler is among the most upscale of our product offerings. Full of soft-touch materials, technology, and boatloads of interior space, the HiAce makes for a useful daily driver. The cab-over design, and tall seating position aide visibility. Plenty of glass and skinny pillars make for safe lane changes and easy parking. The driver benefits additionally from a powered seat, digital gauge cluster, and electrically adjustable steering column. Power locks, mirrors, and windows with a one-touch control are standard, which was rare back in the early '90s. The dash is in good shape except for a small crack and is neither distorted or weather damaged. The cognac-colored velour interior is soft to the touch, and the seats in all three rows are devoid of any major rips, holes, or tears. They are comfortable for long cruises, and the middle row has the ability to recline full and swivel 180 degrees rearward. The rear row is removable and even has a storage binnacle below it that you can secure loose items with. The tailgate lifts to around six feet tall, so loading and unloading cargo is a snap. The carpets were wonderfully maintained, and for those who value originality, the plush carpet OE mats are included at no additional cost. A spare key and owners manuals can also be found in the glove box. The climate control system works as it should, as has a dedicated rear climate zone that rear occupants can utilize. The audio isn't working on this van, but the sweet tunes of the turbo-diesel make for a fine soundtrack. A suite of sunroofs open up the cockpit to natural light, and the panoramic center section can be retracted for extra visibility. When the front windows are rolled down for ventilation the interior isn't overcome with noise and buffeting due to the OEM rain guards.

Most imported Toyota HiAces make do with the base powerplant, the smaller 2.4L gasoline engine, and rear-wheel drive. While many marvel at the well-appointed interior of the van, the rugged drivetrain the real deal. Toyotas bulletproof three-liter 1KZ-TE four-banger has been paired with four-wheel drive to make for efficient motoring, even in the worst weather conditions. The engine benefits from a fresh oil and filter service, with diesel specific oil, and doesn't require any additional scheduled service for three thousand miles. It's mounted midship which has plenty of benefits as it relates to handling and weight distribution. With the twist of a key, the engine whirrs to life and sets into a constant idle. The automatic transmission makes good use of the powerband and gets the large hauler up to highway speeds in a jiffy. A set of new shock bushings have made the ride quality much more plush, and the long-wheelbase Toyota handles large and small bumps with confidence. The brakes are assured and the power steering light, and easy to articulate. A set of a genuine 15" SSR Spiel Stadt wheels complete the look and are wrapped in new rubber at all four corners. They can handle grip in the wet or dry and deliver one's human or cargo payload in safety.

As a head-turning VIP style van, this HiAce deserves high marks. However, this people carrier is so much more, as it has tons of interior appointments and the right drivetrain to take you off the beaten path. Plenty of fine sportscars and SUVs leave our dealership, but you won't want to miss out on the unique ride.
