Toyotas new-for 1990 Celsior (Lexus LS400 in the US) had its sights squarely aimed squarely at European competition from Bavaria and Stuttgart. The overall execution exceeded Toyota's expectation and a new benchmark was reached for luxury sedans. After years of pursuit, the Japanese could finally make the argument that they had produced a finer luxury sedan than BMW and Mercedes. and that's likely why there are so many UCF platform vehicles still on roadways after all these years. The Toyota Celsior embodied luxury and durability, and for that reason, has stood the test of time. This particular example, a 1990 Type C is finished in Toyota's Black Jade Pearl (6K4) two-tone over cream beige leather. At only 80K verified miles, this low mileage example's condition is indicative of its use and has been well cared for in a previous life. The exterior is in good condition, and the paint is beautiful and has been well maintained over the years. There are some routine blemishes that were masked with some with touch up paint at some point, but nothing particularly concerning. The body is extremely straight with no major dings, dents, or scratches, sans the normal age-related wear. Aesthetically, the vehicle has an understated yet classy appeal with its silver WALD rolling stock, and reduced ride height.

The interior has been kept in just as great of shape, if not better than the exterior has. The interior design was as feature-packed as anything on the market and has countless powered options. The rare leather seats are exceptionally plush with very minimal signs of use front and rear. The bolstering is supportive and the leather is supple and soft to the touch. The tan cowhides make this interior exclusive, as most Japanese Celsciors were spec'd with cloth. Other than light, traditional wear from sliding in and out, the leather is free of any rips or tears, and the front buckets feel incredibly supportive over long cruises. If one is fortunate enough to occupy the rear of the cabin, the rear row can recline and provide massage functions for your comfort and convenience. The front and rear carpets have faired well over the years, and even the OEM mats and owners manuals are to be included in this sale. The headliner is taut and unblemished, and the dash lacks any cracks or discoloration of note. Of note, the "executive suite" located behind the passenger seat is sumptuous. Believe it or not, whilst being chauffeured, the rear passengers can control much of the vehicle's infotainment and climate control. The optional F package gave massaging rear seats, heated seats, and even a tape deck and aux input. Best of all, the passenger front seat can fold into the dash to provide a space large enough for one to fully extend their legs. Being a proper 90's luxury sedan all of the accessories are powered. Memory seats, cruise control, automatic climate control, telescoping column, power-folding mirrors, even the seat belt height adjustment. The full climate control works great and has ice cold A/C. Additional cooling comes from rear privacy tint, and conveniently obscures the interior from prying eyes The gauges function well, with fantastic backlighting and interior illumination is nice for night time cruises. Lastly, an updated Kenwood head unit supplies tunes to the cabin, and even supports AUX and USB inputs.

Mechanically this Celsior is just as clean as the rest of the car. Complete with a fresh service including some new plugs, the 1UZ-FE fires right up and purrs beautifully. The 4.0L gasoline powerplant is nearly vibration-free, and incredible smooth while accelerating through the RPM band. A fresh oil and filter service ensures the 1-UZ stays well lubricated for the next three thousand miles. The automatic transmission is equally quiet; shifting in and out of gear without any hesitation or grinding. The large cruiser can easily accelerate to triple-digit speeds and sustain them if necessary. When wishing to keep the car a bit more responsive, there is a selection button for an early sport transmission setting, but we realize most clients will use this as a cruiser. The V8 is also a wise choice when considering ownership costs; the UCF vehicles are loved for low on maintenance costs, as this model was sold here in the US as a Lexus, and parts a readily available. The long wheelbase, coupled with the new adjustable coilover suspension, makes the best out of any poorly maintained state road that you'll come across and the chassis can take a speed bump without batting an eye. New all season, low-profile rubber has been mounted at all four corners around 18" WALD Duchatelet wheels. Coupled with a new alignment, the chassis drives like a vehicle 20 years younger. The power steering is light and the large sedan has a decently small turning radius for its size.

This turn-key VIP sedan is ready to start swallowing up open stretches of US tarmac. Unwavering reliability and ultimate comfort make this stately sedan a vise choice for those who can appreciate real Japanese luxury.
