A big part of Toyota's brand recognition is due to cars like this 1994 Caldina. The 1990s were the marque's heyday, where they designed the most reliable, efficient, and dependable vehicles on the market. This useful front-wheel-drive wagon is offered with a mere 46K original miles and boasts room for five, impressive cargo capacity, and is packed with tons of power equipment. Finished in an understated Green/Gray two-tone (25V), the body is in good shape other than some minor scuffs, dings, and dents associated with normal use. Fresh off a recent service, this turn-key Japanese Classic could be put to work immediately hauling the kids, delivering the mail, or commuting back and forth daily.

The interior is far above average for compared to what we normally see. Telltale signs such as owner's manuals, spare key, and two sets off OEM floor mats make it clear that this example was well cared for. The cockpit is spacious, and upfront, the two passengers have plenty of room to sit comfortably on long hauls. For the driver, a tilting steering column and adjustments for the functional power-folding mirrors, locks, and windows are all at hand. The surprisingly bright factory fogs are nice to have at night time and are flipped on by a dash-mounted button located by the steering column. The OEM audio works as it should, and the automatic climate controls are easy to read and within reach. Best off all, the A/C currently blows cold, and is ready to handle the remainder of summer. If you prefer more natural ventilation, the electric windows are framed by OEM rain guards, which do a nice job of reducing interior noise with the windows down. The dash is in good nick and lacks any age-related distortion or cracking. Extra storage is available in a sizable glove box and center console. The blue and black textured seats match the door cards and are particularly soft to the touch. The upholstery in both rows lacks and major damage such as rips, stains, or tears. The headliner is clean, as are the carpets, and the cabin has no noticeable or offensive odors. The rear seats fold down if the wagon needs to gobble up some suitcases or groceries and the OEM cargo cover is present and removable.

Simple in design, the basic Toyota mechanicals inspires confidence. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 2000cc 3S-FE cranks over happily with a turn of the key. It benefits from a newly installed 12V battery which should be good for the next four years. The four-banger purrs like a kitten, sending power through an automatic gearbox to the front wheels. The slushbox shifts just like your standard Corolla, and the Caldina plods up to highways speeds without hesitation. Admitted, it's not a drag car but the four-cylinder can safely merge onto US interstates, unlike some smaller displacement imports. The suspension feels good and the brakes and power steering are working well. For those who value a car that you can depend on to start up rain or shine, this is the type of car you'll value.
