This 1994 Rover is a cult classic! The tiny two-door boasts go-kart handling and incredible efficiency all rolled into one snug-fitting package. Finished in a one-off Sage Green, the body is in great shape other than a few minor scuffs and dings associated with normal use. Wide 13" Minilite alloy wheels fill the fenders with fresh rubber, providing plenty of traction for spirited driving. A proper set of small chrome fender mirrors and driving lights complete the aesthetic. Recently serviced and legally imported this 59K verified mile MINI is one of the most unique and fun cars we have offered in a while!
The interior is simple, tidy, and highly stylized for a vehicle at this price point. Immediately you'll notice light burled wood dash instead of the typical standard plastic unit. The veneer has a nicely sized glove box assembly that mounts flush when closed. Even a VDO black and white analog clock has been retrofitted to the center of the dash and looks killer. The Mayfair's classic black cloth interior is accented with red piping. Barring a small hole on the driver's seat, the cockpit is in above average in condition. The old tint has been replaced with new privacy tint here in the US, to further protect the cockpit against heat and UV rays. Plus, everything looks better with a good layer of tint. The door cards also match the seats, their textured material is soft to the touch. The headliner is taught and unmolested. Being a higher trim level than your basic Cooper, added storage is equipped on either side of the rear passengers, and the rear windows can be vented to add a blast of fresh air to the cabin. A red-stitched steering wheel wrapped in leather is grippy and connects the driver to the road. This car is actually equipped with A/C and the speakers and head unit have been upgraded to Alpine units, with aux and USB functionality. A/C is a Japanese only option which is part of why these are so much more desirable than MINIs over in the UK.
Under the bonnet is the trademark transverse-mounted four-cylinder. The 1275cc mill is peppy and the automatic transmission mates up well to the four-banger. The car fires right up and buzzes to life, settling into a nice idle. The EFI models, such as this one, do not require a choke thereby adding a bit of convenience to your ownership experience. The battery has been replaced with a new one, ensuring optimal startups during the winter months. The power unit makes decent torque and pulls to redline without any issues. The larger displacement cars such as this one, have much better low-end torque, and also seem to pull better in the mid-range. With an improved center-exit exhaust and Team Turtle polished intake, this Mini's soundtrack is sublime, emitting the proper "burble and spit" noises that everyone loves. Despite no power assist, the steering is easy to articulate at low speeds. Two new tires have been mounted and balanced by one of our trained technicians, and an oil and filter service has been completed. The suspension is compliant, and as with any Mini, isn't the least bit refined. Their older technology certainly gets the job done and has stood the test of time. Despite its rudimentary nature, this Mini puts a smile on your face every time you drive it.
The consummate overachiever, this Rover MINI is a true driver's car. Its go-kart handling, iconic styling, and readily available parts support to make this an ideal Japanese Classic to put in your garage!
