The 1990s were a prolific era for Japanese SUVs, and this 1994 Pajero is a perfect illustration of a robust, body-on-frame vehicle built to last.

Exterior Overview

The 1990s were a prolific era for Japanese SUVs, and this 1994 Pajero is a perfect illustration of a robust, body-on-frame vehicle built to last. Fresh off a recent service, this V6-powered Mitsubishi is offered with a mere 90k verified and documented miles on the clock and a rare 3.5l powerplant. Finished in a stately Hanover Green over Silver (H81) two-tone, this rig is set off by OEM rainguards, chrome mirror caps and door handles, a rare hardshell OEM spare tire cover, factory rear privacy shading, and some refinished five-spoke alloys. Aside from a few light dings, paint chips, and scuffs the body is in good shape. Ideal as a year-round daily driver or fun family off-roader, this platform is capable, reliable, and easy to service. With a global reputation for longevity that rivals any model, this formidable four-wheel driver is a certified Japanese Classic that won’t break the bank.

Interior Overview

The cabin is spacious and nicely equipped. Even a few factory upgrades are present. Hardly seen, this truck is upholstered in gray leather and includes an optional third row! Most Pajeros include cloth seats, but this one is a tad more luxurious. The cowhides lack any major rips, holes, or tears, and the same material is mirrored in the door cards. Keyless entry allows for seamless cabin access. The tall ride height allows everyone to slide into the cabin, and the driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and SRS airbag. The dash lacks any cracking or fading, and a neat looking off-road field monitor displays information about the outside conditions if you lose cell service. Below, the automatic climate controls are located centrally, and the digital display is easy to navigate. The Pajero blasts piping hot heat and cool A/C through dual-zones for year-round use. For those in cooler climates, factory-heated seats keep your buns toasty. Directly underneath is the OEM head unit that is happy to pipe some tunes into the cabin, supplementing your commute.  Power windows, power locks, and power mirrors function, making daily use more enjoyable. The door cards, carpets, and headliner are in good shape, and aside from nonfunctional power folding mirrors and a sunroof that’s been sealed shut, it’s hard to complain about the cabin. Even a spare key and OEM tool kit are included with the purchase!

Mechanical Overview

Built atop the same platform as our domestic Monteros, parts for this Pajero are easy to find, and service can be had on the cheap. The 6G74 under the hood turns right over with the twist of the key, and this V6 is also fresh off an oil and filter service. A proper tune-up was in order, and we replaced the fuel filter and engine air filter. The 3.5L is linked to a stout automatic gearbox that shifts properly. The SuperSelect 4WD system allows you to toggle between RWD and 4WD at speeds of up to 62 MPH, which is an impressive feat. A center locker and low range are on standby for when additional traction is required. To shore up the driveline, we exchanged the fluid in the transfer case, and front and rear differentials. This Pajero is calm and comfortable on the highway, and peppy from stoplight to stoplight. For a midsize SUV, a tall ride height yet narrow exterior dimensions make city maneuverability and parking a breeze. The power steering is light and on point, and the ABS brakes feel tight and tidy. Fresh off an alignment in-house, the brand new Falken tires will last for tens for tens of thousands of miles to come, and the new rubber quells road noises nicely. Turn key and ready to rock, this seven seater is a dream to drive and won’t break the bank!
