Toyota's second-generation N130 Hilux Surf is a great rig for off-road diehards and those looking to dip their toes into truck ownership. A truck that excels at being brilliant at the basics, these simple, reliable rigs handle business on all surfaces and our 1994 is no exception. Finished in dark blue metallic, the exterior shows swell, and is accented by OEM rainguards and snazzy privacy tint. Rolling on refinished factory alloys clad in fresh Falken A/T rubber, the aesthetic is worth writing home about showing no major imperfections apart from some typical chips and fading in the paint. Even better, the 73k miles on the clock are verified and we've performed a comprehensive service in house. Durable, dependable, and desirable, these Surfs are nothing less than true Japanese Classics.

The interior boasts durable cloth upholstery, plenty of power amenities, and enough space to haul a full squad and the family dog. For some added accessibility for your drive, power windows, mirrors, and power locks work as advertised, and the rear glass can unfurl at the push of a button for some rearward ventilation. Even the seldom seen factory moonroof works without a hitch! For a 29 year old vehicle, the materials have remained in remarkably good shape. The seats show no major wear to note and the dash is free of any of the pesky UV damage or cracks that usually plague Toyotas of this vintage. The driver benefits from a tilt adjustable steering column and a MOMO steering wheel feels much nicer in the palm over the wear-prone factory unit it replaced. The center stack is no worse for the wear, and houses an easy to use climate control system primed with cold A/C for the warmer months ahead. Positioned below is aftermarket audio which, while functional, could benefit from a speaker replacement as the sound quality leaves a bit to be desired. The rear bench is slightly reclinable so your passengers can get some rest and can also fold fully forward if you need to prioritize cargo space. Overall, this is a fine cabin to carry you and your passengers, and was clearly well cared for in a prior life. Even the headliner and carpet have withstood any unwanted wear and tear!

The 3VZ-E is the same responsive six-cylinder offered in our stateside second generation 4Runners, and ours has the added benefit of low mileage and an extensive recent service done in house by our trained technicians! This one cranks over with ease thanks to a new 12v battery, and oil leaks are not of concern as we replaced the valve cover gaskets and topped it off with a fresh oil and filter service. The 3VZ breathes healthily, thanks to a new engine air filter, and a new fuel filter keeps any unwanted contaminants out of your petrol. Mated to a slick shifting 5-speed manual gearbox, it's easy to keep this engine in the powerband as you shoot up to highway speeds. The shifter engages smoothly and we prefer the hands-on experience you get in this barebones rig. If off-roading or overlanding is in the cards, 4WD can be easily engaged, with low gearing on hand should you need to escape from some less than ideal terrain. The suspension gobbles up bumps and divots in the road with ease, and the brakes do a fine job at slowing this brute down if needed. Lastly, we wrapped the freshly refinished factory alloys in new Falken A/T rubber, sure to deliver plenty of grip, comfort, and stopping power for tens of thousands of miles to come!
