The fine folks at Toyota have mastered the process of designing a sport utility vehicle. They have been doing it for 70 years now, and this 1994 Hilux Surf is one special rig. Finished in Prussian Red Pearl over Gray (25T) the body and paint are in good nick aside from the normal dings, chips, and scuffs associated with normal use. Set off by a set of BERG alloys, OEM parking pole, factory brushguard, and privacy tint, she is quite the looker, too! Fresh off a recent service, this powerful, capable, and reliable truck is offered with only 107k verified and documented miles. For those who want a unique and trusty year-round truck that would be just as good as a daily driver, weekend warrior, or just a fun backwoods trail toy, this Japanese Classic is it!

The cabin stands out thanks to the special Recaro seats that were optional on SSR-G models. The aggressively bolstered front buckets are in wonderful shape, as is the rear bench, and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The same can be said for the matching door cards. The view of the road ahead is clear and commanding, and the tall SUV rides above traffic. Unlike most SUVs we sell this one has the rare factory cruise control option, which is key if you plan to commute in this Toyota. The dash is in good shape overall and lacks any cracking. We did want to note a few screw holes from an old nav unit by the glovebox, and some light flaking above the A/C controls. Speaking of which, the air conditioning works like a charm, and the heat is on hand in case, the next owner plans to use this rig year-round. The OEM audio works too and sounds quite good for this vehicle's age. An adjustable steering column, power windows, and electric locks make daily use enjoyable, and function properly. The headliner looks good too, and there is plenty of room for five adults and their cargo. The rear window powers down in case you have a canine companion and the rear privacy tint keeps the harmful rays of the sun off the interior plastics. While the overall condition is impressive, this Hilux isn't perfect. We wanted to note the dome light is inoperable, the power mirrors no longer function, and there is some light staining on the carpets. Still, at a quarter-century old it's obvious this truck was cared for in a prior life, and it shows. It even has the old owners manuals and OEM carpet mats which were happy to pass on to the US purchaser.

The Hilux Surf is powered by one of Toyota's most legendary engines, the 1KZ-TE. This torquey four-banger is fresh off an oil and filter service, and starts up promptly thanks to two new 12v batteries. The engine idles with confidence and breathes better thanks to a new engine air filter. One of our trained techs also installed a new valve cover gasket so the 3.0L stays topped up on oil, and now she's right as rain! Power is sent to two, or all four wheels, through a selective transfercase. Low gearing is available if the going gets tough, and the driveline feels really stout overall. The automatic gearbox shifts seamlessly and is geared for sustained highway use if that's the plan. The suspension is capable and can handle the rigors of daily use and abuse. The front end has received new end links and a new front left axle, and is now quieter when riding over larger and smaller road imperfections. The brakes are confident and the power steering is light but on point and never feels taxing. The J95 Toyota alloys have all been resurfaced and look killer in a custom gray hue. They are all wrapped in new 31" all terrain rubber at all four corners. We even did the spare, too. These tires will last for tens of thousands of miles to come and deliver all the premium, year-round grip you need.
