Performance sedans will never die, and the JZX90 is an especially prolific one. Noted for its classic proportions, healthy powertrain, and refined cabin the Mark II is quickly appreciating in an already strong JDM market. Optioned from the factory with an R154 manual transmission, rear-wheel-drive, and bi-turbo supra engine; successfully checking all of the right boxes. Offered with 97K verified miles, the body of this 1993 Dark Green Mica (6N2) four-door is in good shape barring a few small dings and chips from normal use. This turn-key example benefits from a bevy of nice maintenance items and is largely unmodified for those who care about originality.

The interior of the Mark II is simple, underrated, and full of quality materials. Unlike other manufacturers of this era, Toyotas generally have held up better and were noted for using some premium materials. The dash, for instance, is neither distorted or cracker. The expansive front windscreen, skinny pillars, and low beltline all combine to offer full visibility. Drivers of all sizes can fit upfront, as the seats are adjustable and the JZX90 comes standard with a tilt column. The steering wheel is in good shape and rests nicely in the driver's hands. The seats are rather plush, yet well-bolstered making long cruises a breeze. Power mirrors, locks, and one-touch window all add to the convenience factor. The digital climate functions as it should, and makes for a comfortable four-season motoring experience. The rear seats, trimmed in the same gray cloth as the front, are in good nick and look seldom used. They, like the two front-most buckets, are devoid of any major tears, rips, or stains. The cabin feels a smidge larger than most of our Mark II's because it features an optional sunroof. It tilts and fully retracts to let in some more ventilation if you require some, however, the natural light is great to have by itself. There is a little leather wear on the shift boot, but other than that this little gem is ready to rock.

Under the hood, Toyota's bulletproof 1JZ-GTE is mounted far back in the engine bay. With a turn of the key, it jolts to life and sets into a constant idle. The perfect primary and secondary balance of this straight-six makes it almost vibration-free. The two snails created boost with little lag, and the sedan sails up to, and well above, legal speeds with ease. The five-speed, close-ratio tranny shifts as it should, and gives you a level of control that an auto can't. A fresh air filter and oil service have been taken care of, and the JZX90 need not be scheduled for any routine maintenance for another 3,000 miles. The power-assisted steering is smooth, and the suspension makes for a hassle-free driving experience that has plenty of ground clearance to handle potholes and road imperfections. New front brake pads ensure that adequate clamping power can be applied at will. The Vertec VR5 alloys add a bit of flair for a car that is stock otherwise.

Toyota's best attempt at a sedan Supra, the JZX packs tons of power, a five-speed gearbox, and delivers plenty of smiles. An instant Japanese Classic, this trusty steed can be daily driven or taken to the track and feel just at home.
