1993 Nissan S14 K’s Type S

By 1993, it was clear Nissan was doing a fine job of creating sports cars. The Skyline was a racing and sales, success as was the S13, but time had come for substantial revisions to each. This S14 managed to improve on many of the qualities lacking in the generation that preceded it, and only with 126K verified miles. For instance, the Silvia received a substantial interior upgrade as the quality of the materials was greatly improved. The platform's rigidity increased a bit, and for that reason, the handling became even better than the S13. Finished in Super Black (KH3) is always a strong choice for these. The paint shows well, however, it does have some fade spots along the hood and roof. The clear coat isn't peeling or anything particularly severe but worth noting. Also with all black cars, it has a tendency to show swirl marks and small imperfections like stone chips a bit more than the lighter colors tend to. The body has been kept all stock and looks good just the way it is. Like any 25-year-old car it's bound to have a few door dings and spots from driving over the years, but its well above average from most of the cars you see running around stateside of this age. For a splash of color 17" Ken's Sport Racing Wheels were added as the stock ones are a bit bland.
The interior has had a few tweaks made to it. Most notably that fixed back bucket in place of the driver's seat. These style seats ensure that there's no worry about sloshing about when you start throwing it into the twisties. The seat itself is in generally good shape, however, it does have the typical bolster wear as it is a bit of a climb in and out of these. The wildly striped seats factory seats were surprisingly common for the era and are in excellent shape for the passenger and rear occupants. It doesn't look like the rear seats have seen much use over the years as most don't want to deal with squeezing in back there. The Momo race wheel and Razo carbon fiber style knob dress up the modest interior nicely. While the S14 isn't as bad for dash cracks as the S13 is this one does have a mat atop the dash to hide the bit of cracking that has happened. Luckily these are less prone to issues with the face of the dash where it becomes glaringly obvious. The other issue to note is a tear in the carpeting on the driver's side along the trans tunnel near the seat. It can be seen in the photos and a set of floor mats would largely cover up the issue. All of the powered accessories are functioning as one would expect; power windows, power-folding mirrors, door locks, and automatic climate control. While the factory radio was removed all the wiring appears to be present for you to swap in a nice double din to help modernize the interior a bit.
The reason everyone wants an S chassis is what's under the hood. The SR20DET has become a legend over the years for its ability to make big power in such a small package. In stock trim, these motors are no slouch, and with a few simple bolt-ons, it really comes to life. This one has a few tweaks for some extra ponies without worrying about compromising reliability. The HPI front mount intercooler is also a stealthy addition when you keep the factory front end. The turbo itself is fed through an HPI intake and super suction kit with a Z32 MAF upgrade to help out as well. The intake ensures plenty of fresh air and also makes all the fun noises in and out of boost that we all enjoy. The SR fires right up thanks to its Optima 12V battery. Those with a keen eye will notice its no longer mounted under the hood and instead resides in the trunk now for weight distribution. The power comes on quickly as the turbo spools, making the high revving nature of these a blast. Mated to a proper 5-speed manual, rowing through the gears is the only way to really enjoy all of Nissan's efforts. The transmission shifts with ease and the clutch is rather forgiving. The stock suspension is well sorted since these are such lightweight cars, giving you plenty of control at all times. It did need a few routine items upon arrival; a fresh set of rubber outback, a new tie rod, and a routine oil change. With the vast availability of parts, it's blistering performance, and timeless good looks the S14 really is a jack of all trades. It's not often that we see these in such a clean condition while checking all the right boxes. Whether you're in search of a new weekend toy or simply a fun daily driver the Silvia has your back.
