The Mitsubishi Delica is hands down one of the most unique vans on the road today. Its styling is an eclectic mix between the A-Team and a Safari adventure, and will most certainly stand out where ever you park it. The exterior features a ton of OEM optional equipment like the front brush guard, side doorsteps, and rear bumper bar. Finished in arguably the most fun color combo with its bright Green/Gray two-tone (G7UM), it only makes sense considering how quirky the styling is. The paint shows great for its age and the rugged, boxy, bodywork has been kept up with just as well. Of course, there are a few small dings and stone chips, but what 27 year old vehicle doesn't have those? Considering it was designed to be an off-roader, the body has been kept in very impressive shape.

The interior of the Star Wagon is where these come into a class of their own. With seating for up to 8 in its standard layout, so no one has to be left behind. When you don't have a full crew with you there are several different seating options with the 70/30 third-row laying fully flat. The middle row can be laid down flat as well creating a massive bed and has a flip-up jump seat for easy access to the rear. Both of which offer a lot of versatility for whatever the road may have in store. The seats show minimal wear and have no major rips or tears. The gray cloth is especially soft, and the seats all have good bolstering for comfort on longer drives. The factory gauge suite that would typically be sitting atop the dash was removed at some point so there is a void too note. The interior panels are in good shape and the dash is free of any cracks, or discoloration. Of course, the Delica came fitted with all of the modern amenities of the time like power locks, mirrors, and windows standard. There is also a dual-zone climate control system for both front and rear to keep everyone comfortable.

The secret sauce of the Delicas success is simple, a brutish, go-anywhere drivetrain. The 4D56 TurboDiesel was a successfully built, and market motor for Mitsubishi. Made for three decades, parts are easy to find and relatively inexpensive. The mid-mounted four-cylinder jolts to life with a turn of the key. Having only 64K verified miles that comes as little surprise. The familiar diesel clatter is reassuring, and the little engine sets into a constant idle upon cold start. Fresh off recent maintenance, the engine feels strong and the Delica effortless accelerates up to highway speeds with ease. Of course, that new battery, a fresh set of rubber, and oil change ensure that things will stay that way for the foreseeable future. Shifts through the manual transmission are smooth and deliberate. The 4X4 system is functioning correctly and can handle just about terrain you can throw at it. The suspension has tons of clearance, and on-road driving characteristics are pleasant. Yet the chassis is stable at speed, and the low overhangs are great for approach angles off the beaten path. The Delica is the ultimate statement maker. Whether for daily use, promotional marketing, or simply exploring the outdoors it is a true do-everything van.
