American Land Cruiser J80s are in high demand these days. While the US model is reliable, useful, and capable, it could sure use a healthy dose of performance. Enter this 1993 HDJ81, which is powered by a hotshot 4.2L turbodiesel engine, that provides gobs of torque and is highly efficient. Finished in Medium Red Pearl (3H4), the Landy is set off by a set of clear tail lamps, OEM rainguards, a factory spare tire swingarm, and aftermarket chrome 16" wheels wrapped in new Falken all-terrain tires. Fresh off a recent service, this beast is offered with a mere 89k verified and documented miles on the clock. Tough, rugged, and dependable it's obvious this Japanese Classic is the real deal. Collectors and enthusiasts alike love these HDJ81s and it's for all too many reasons!

The cabin is about as large as any import we see, and it's packed full of amenities and options. Upon entering the cabin, you will notice a Garbato wood grain steering wheel upgrade and AddZest audio system. The latter of which works and includes a neat visual display. Unlike many of these 80s we see, the dashboard lacks any cracking or fading. An automatic climate control system is located in the middle of the center stack and mixes in heat and A/C when necessary. For those who prefer natural ventilation, an electric sunroof can unfurl and the windows can power down with the press of a few buttons. Power folding mirrors and power locks make daily use more enjoyable and the driver can find the ideal driving position thanks to an adjustable steering column. The cognac and tan seats are in above-average shape and are soft to the touch. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears and are fairly durable. The middle row also has the ability to tumble forward to create a flat loading floor. The headliner, door cards, and carpets have withstood major abuse and for a 25-year-old vehicle, this Toyota is in good shape. It even has an OEM CoolBox center console to keep your libations refrigerated on your first road trip!

The body on frame platform is tough and able to handle loads of abuse. The same can be said for the 1HD-T under the hood. The silky smooth inline six whirrs to life care of two new 12v batteries we installed in the shop. To keep the electronics properly powered we replaced the old serpentine belts with new ones. One of our trained techs also replaced the fuel filter and engine air filter for good measure. The 4.2L is linked to a stout automatic gearbox that makes good use of the prodigious low-end torque on hand. Power is fed through a Full-Time 4WD system and if the going gets tough, a center locker and low range can be utilized. Acceleration from stoplight to stoplight is impressive for a rig of this size and high-speed highway cruising is effortless. The suspension is soft and offers loads of ground clearance. It makes quick work of road imperfections and the long wheelbase pays dividends on the freeway compared to smaller SUVs that feel a bit jittery. The brakes are confident and grip is handled by freshly mounted and balanced 33" Falkens at all four corners.
