The second-generation Hilux Surf is one of our favorites, and it is a strictly business SUV that truly needs no introduction. For discerning off-road enthusiasts that need a go-anywhere, do-anything vehicle, this trick turbo diesel "4Runner" is a top candidate. Backed by a near bulletproof powerplant, and versatile selectable-4WD, it's no surprise the N130 Surf is one of our most popular Japanese Classics. This 1993 model fashioned in SSR-X trim is trail ready, donning a 2" suspension lift and fresh 32" Falken all-terrain rubber. Finished in a snazzy Vermillion Red (A82) over Pewter, this Hilux certainly looks the part. The exterior is offset by some choice OEM accessories, namely an OEM option rear spoiler, and a handy spare tire carrier. Set off by some matching refinished 16" OEM alloys this handsome Surf is ready to crawl over whatever obstacles await. With only 135k verified/documented miles this KZN130 is just getting broken in, and with some choice services performed in-house, we have this terrific truck turn-key ready to rip!

Japanese market Toyotas are commonly championed for their build quality, inside and out. The interior of this truck is spacious, clean, and every bit as capable as the rest of the vehicle. The dash is in great shape overall, with no pesky cracks, fading, or peeling to be found. The cockpit is a comfortable place to be, the patterned cloth upholstery on the seats is comfortable and shows nicely. The driver even receives a seating upgrade, courtesy of a Recaro reclinable bucket seat. The complementary tortoise dash trim is in good nick and houses a simple and intuitive climate control unit. The A/C is blowing cold for the spring and summer ahead and hot heat is on the ready for when the climate decides to cool down. The drab OEM steering wheel has been replaced with a matching "Fabulous" wood grain wheel, and stands out against the gray hues of the cockpit. A handful of power amenities are on deck to make the drive comfortable and enjoyable for all passengers. Power windows, locks, and power mirrors all work without a hitch, a power moonroof slides and tilts smoothly, and the power rear glass allows for some much-needed airflow throughout the cabin. The back seats are roomy, folding fully forward and back to accommodate any storage or sleeping situation required, and the trunk serves up plenty of additional cargo space to boot. Overall, this Surf has a true swiss army knife of an interior, and aside from some typical wear on the interior plastics and a nonoperational headunit, the next owner should be more than satisfied with the condition. We even kept the factory owner's manuals, tool kit, and maintenance booklet handy!

The N130 Surf was offered with a few engine options from the factory, and the 1KZ-TE is indisputably the finest. These robust turbo diesel powerplants are torquey, efficient, and surprisingly easy to service. This one turns over with the twist of a key, thanks to two new 12v batteries, and this 3.0 diesel operates smoothly. A new valve cover gasket, and fresh oil and filter service ensure the motor stays running tip-top, and new serpentine belts drive the accessories without hesitation. Paired to a smooth shifting automatic transmission, around-town operation is seamless, with the turbo easily propelling this super Surf to highway speeds easily when called upon. The transfer case offers both high and low gears to tackle any adverse road conditions, and the OEM front hubs have been ditched and upgraded to fully manual locking units, saving aspiring off-roaders from any technical difficulties on the trail. For a lifted SUV, handling is surprisingly precise and comfortable, mostly thanks to new shocks up front, and we think this Surf would make a spectacular daily driver for anyone looking to take the plunge. The brakes bite hard, on and off loose surfaces, and we've even installed 4 new tires to deliver plenty of grip for tens of thousands of miles to come!
