1992 Nissan Skyline Sedan
Stock Number: 4244
Life is about compromises, and having five JDM vehicles in your driveway may not be realistic for most of us. Manual, RWD, turbocharged vehicles seldom have room for five, yet this 1992 Skyline GTS-t does. Offered with 66K verified miles, this sedan has been redone from the factory (KH2) Gun Gray Metallic to a custom Alpine White. The exterior is in good shape, sans a few dings, and scuffs from normal use. Tastefully modified, this R32 features iconic looks, inspired driving performance and low cost of ownership. As quality examples dwindle in Japan, clean R32 sedans have been more difficult to find, and have appreciated in value for the past few years.
The purposeful and well laid out cockpit design featured in the Skyline sedan has stood the test of time. The low slung dash and skinny A-pillars provide great visibility of the road ahead. Aiding with nighttime visibility a set of HID lights is fashioned behind the factory projectors. With simple, functional instrumentation, all the driver controls are within arms reach and are easily legible. White-faced gauges and a functional JVC head unit update the interior from stock and tie in with the Nismo style shift knob. The seats are all in good shape and are devoid of any major holes, tears or blemishes. While some sun fading has occurred by the rear parcel shelf, the material is soft and the bolstering is still premium in feel. The charcoal carpets are all in above average shape and were protected in a prior life by carpet mats. Our vehicles never are perfect, after all, they are nearly three decades old. Of note, the dash distortion that affects many skylines is present, as is some accelerated drivers door panel wear. The headliner is tight and taut, although it has some light staining. On the positive side, the C pillar trim has held up nicely (unlike many sedans) and the old owner even kept the OEM manual in the glove box.
The driveline is likely the reason an enthusiast would consider this particular car. In Japan, a large percentage of Skyline sedans are equipped with automatic gearboxes. While they are fun to drive, nothing replaces the feeling of rowing your own gears. Mated to a silky smooth, turbocharged, 2.0L straight-six, the five-speed transmission is a delight to shift. With little vibration, the RB jolts to life, care of a new 12V battery. At Japanese Classics, we take all the maintenance up to date on our vehicles, even for expensive services such as the timing belt and water pump. In this 1992, those items have been taken care of in house by our trained technicians, plus we have changed the plugs and installed new air and fuel filter. Accelerating up to speeds with urgency, the RB20DET can get you up to reckless driving speeds with haste. A Blitz Electronic Boost Controller allows for on the fly adjustments if more performance is required. A Fujitsubo exhaust and short ram intake complete the list of power-adders. Still relatively comfortable, the R32 has a few performance modifications to make the handling and steering more responsive. The ride is firmer than stock, and ride height is reduced by a set of JIC adjustable dampers. New HICAS arms have been installed to reduce suspension play, allowing for better control of the platform. The front end of the chassis has been stiffened with a Mine's strut tower brace in improving rigidity, and additional grip is handled by four new Achilles tires mounted at all four corners.
The next chapter of this Japanese classics life should enjoy hitting the open tarmac and blasting down the interstate. If used as a daily driver or even a weekend toy, this R32 will surely suit the bill. Lauded for its massive aftermarket, tunable platform, and spacious interior, the versatility of this sedan is unmatched!
