1992 Hilux Surf SSR-X
Pending Sale: $12,995
Toyota Hilux Surf SUVs are some of the best-selling body-on-frame vehicles in our lineup. Rugged on the outside, roomy on the inside, and touting Toyota reliability under the skin, this five-seater is hard to beat! Our 1992 Toyota Hilux Surf SSR-X is fresh off a recent service and offered with a mere 84k verified and documented miles. Conveniently, maintenance and repair parts are readily available since Toyota sold nearly the identical truck here stateside as the 4Runner. Finished in a Prussian Red Pearl with a Dark Gray Metallic two-tone (25T), the body is in good shape aside from some normal dings, chips, and scuffs. Accented with an OEM brush guard this rig is eye-catching yet stately. Legally imported, capable, and well-equipped this Japanese Classic is a trail-ready 4x4 that would also make for a wonderful, all-season, family hauler.
The cabin is outfitted with a gray cloth interior that shows no major holes, stains, or tears aside from a rip on the driver's seatback. The seats are comfortable, supportive, and good on long trips while still feeling soft to the touch. There is a crack in the center of the dash as well, which is sadly a common occurrence in these N130's. The view of the road ahead is clear and commanding as the Hilux rides above traffic, which promotes decent visibility. The analog gauges are easy to read at a quick glance if needed while you're driving. Power features such as electric windows, locks, and mirrors are all working properly and make daily use more convenient. The OEM rain guards, allow the passengers to take a break from the cold A/C and get fresh air even if it's raining outside. The door cards are intact and don't show any major wear to be concerned with. Neither does the headliner, and the carpets are clean and have been well maintained. The factory radio was tossed out for a Carrozzeria double din head unit that works properly to supply tunes to the cabin. If you need more cargo room, the rear seats fold down 60/40, and can easily fit a lot more added gear when necessary. The rear glass does power retaract if you have a pooch in the back or require some additional ventilation. It is obvious that the previous owner took pride in his/her ownership of this beautiful Hilux which the next lucky owner will surely benefit from.
The mechanicals underneath the bonnet of this Hilux are simple and straightforward. The 3VZ-E V6 engine is low maintenance and reliable as almost all Toyotas of this era are and is fresh off an oil and filter service. Its starts up immediately as you turn the key, thanks to a fresh set of spark plugs and wires, and a new 12V battery. It's not the fastest SUV out there, but it easily gets up to highway merging speeds without breaking a sweat. To increase efficiency a new engine air filter has been fitted uncorking the 3.0L a touch. Also while in the shop our trained techs have taken care of a few other bits including installing a new fuel filter, distributor cap, and rotor. Power is sent to all four wheels when you need it, and the driver can select 2WD if traction isn't an issue. The suspension handles great on and off-road, delivering a comfortable and predictable ride even on a truck chassis. The brakes are confident when applied, and slow this rig with ease. We did chuck a set of front pads on her to make sure the next owner is good to go. We also replaced all of the tires including the spare with new all-terrain rubber. These new tires fit the aesthetic and will provide tens of thousands of miles of year-round grip to come.
