1990 Nissan Skyline GTS-4 AWD
Stock Number: 4993
When you think of all the JDM AWD sedans that we import, the name Skyline hardly comes to mind. This 1990 GTS-4 shares its AWD system with big brother GTR and can fit five adults! Featuring a silky 2.0L turbo RB20DET and a real-deal manual gearbox, this one owner example would make a fantastic, year-round daily driver. Finished in a classy and understated (TH1) Dark Blue Pearl, and accented with a power retractible GT Auto front spoiler, the body is in good shape aside from the normal dings and chips. At only 90K verified miles, this recently serviced and legally imported sports sedan is a great investment and a Japanese Classic!
The cabin is one of the nicest we have seen in a while, and it's obvious this one was cared for in Japan. The dashboards are normally deformed but this one shows little to no distortion. The digital climate control pumps in cold a/c and the OEM audio has been upgraded with a newer, functional clarion unit. Power windows and locks are standard and the power-folding electric mirrors even work still. The upholstery is done is a durable, thatched gray cloth. The seats are above average condition and lack any major rips stains or tears. Long journeys can be had in comfort although admittedly rear legroom isn't massive. The carpets are in good nick as are the door cards, but the front driver's side insert is beginning to delaminate. Overall, however, this cockpit really impresses us, and shouldn't disappoint. Even the original owner's manuals are in the glovebox!
The chassis is more refined than you'd think if you haven't driven one before. The 2.0L designed to make gobs of top-end power, it's supposed to make for a premium and peppy drive. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the RB fires up quickly thanks to a new 12V battery. The exhaust has a slightly deeper thrum thanks to a polished FGK stainless exhaust system. The idle is near vibration free and the six-cylinder is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Gear changes are direct and the gearbox feels strong, lacking any crunching or grinds. We have changed the transmission oil so that the next owner wouldn't need to bother, and the slots into gear with a subtle notchiness. The ATTESSA AWD system delivers surefooted handling even in less than ideal weather conditions. The suspension is solid and sorts out potholes and imperfections in the tarmac nicely. We have replaced the rear HICAS arms and front upper control arms to shore up the driveline, as these commonly wear out over the years. The brakes are confident and the power steering is communicative and on center. A set of gunmetal alloys completes the aesthetic and are wrapped in new tires at all four corners. These all-season units are equipped to deal with all sorts of weather and quiet down the ride noticeably.
