The Nissan Pao is frugal, fun, quirky, and unique to say the least. This 1990 convertible is one of the nicest we have seen in a while and is offered with a mere 77K verified miles. Known and loved for its retro styling this example is finished in a lovely Aqua Gray (FJ0.) The body is in good shape aside from some normal dings and chips any 31-year-old vehicle is bound to collect and is set off by a cream and teal leather interior. Recently serviced and legally imported, this efficient city runabout is both an affordable collectible JDM import that turns more heads than a GT-R!

The cabin is in above average condition for a Pao of this age and has some tasty little upgrades to pair up with its factory options. The view of the road ahead is clear and the skinny A-pillars promote good visibility. The little black dash pad is in good shape and lacks any cracking or distortion. A simple to use manual climate control system is standard and sits in the center of the dash. Extra ventilation comes from roll-down windows and for rear occupants, you have butterfly windows that tilt up for extra breeze. The most desirable feature is the powered rag top. With the press of a switch, the heavens above appear and transform the driving experience. An OEM Panasonic radio sits directly below the climate system and works just fine. A neat little fact is that you can have this unit rebuilt with Bluetooth here in the USA from a Pao enthusiast and expert Martin Schram. This was one of the first times a major manufacturer teamed up with another high-profile brand setting a standard that all manufacturers followed. The seat covers are in good shape and lack any major imperfections such as rips, stains or tears. They have body matching inserts and are comfortable on long cruises while being easy to clean. The carpets, headliners, and door cards have held up well over the years and the cargo area can be made more expansive thanks to folding rear seats. The rear hatch clamshells open for tailgating purposes which isn't something you see anymore these days.

The mechanicals are more modern than the exterior styling would allude to. Under the bonnet is Nissan's MA10S 1.0L four-banger which provides a whopping 55 ponies that's sent directly to the front wheels. She turns over quickly thanks to a new 12V battery and benefits from a fresh oil and filter service. The automatic gearbox shifts properly and is geared for use on American interstates. The front wheels do both the driving and steering and this layout gives the Pao better traction in slippery situations. The Pao almost floats over the bumps, and what it lacks in cornering prowess it makes up for in refinement. That's not to make a 1,800-pound car sound like a Lexus, but it does ride better than most any other sub-one-tonne vehicle we sell. The power steering is light and makes this tiny ride a cinch to park in the city. The brakes feel confident and the lightweight Cabrio stops promptly when asked. The little steel wheels are set off with a set of hub cover that reinforces the retro vibe. Four all-new tires have been mounted at all four corners and quiet the ride down nicely. They will last for years to come and deliver year-round grip.
