Considered to be the height of postmodernist Japanese design, this 1990 Pao is a true Japanese Classic. Designed to invoke all those retro Renault, Citroen, and Fiat feels, this four seat hatchback is underpinned by reliable Japanese mechanicals. Fresh off a recent service, this stunning Nissan is offered with a mere 82k verified and documented miles on the ticker. Finished in a lovely Olive Gray (DJ0) this PK10 is optioned with the highly desirable power canvas roof, and manual gearbox. Aside from a few dings, chips and scuffs, the paint is in good nick and a set of OEM rainguards complete the aesthetic. Fashionable, frugal, and collectible, this superb city car would be a perfect weekend cruiser or unique daily driver.
The cabin is in wonderful shape and includes a few upgrades aside from the optional retractable canvas roof. For instance the retro styled Panasonic headunit is equipped in this car and operates properly. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and has an integrated glove box and storage shelf on the passenger side. The twill seats are in good nick and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. Simple controls for the functional air conditioning and heat can be found in the center of the dash and the controls are intuitive to use. Wind wings can be opened and the manual side windows can be opened for even better airflow. The headliners, door cards, and carpets are in fine shape and overall it's clear this Pao was loved in Japan.
This front wheel drive platform is ideal for year round use, and the little 1.0L MA10S four-banger is up to the task as well. The engine is fresh off an oil and filter service and runs seamlessly thanks to a new set of serpentine belts and a set of spark plugs. One of our trained techs also resealed the oil pan while it was up on the lift to give this Pao a fresh start when hitting our stateside pavement. Most of these runabouts are spec'd with an anemic three speed auto but this one is a driver's special. Power is funneled through a five speed manual which adds a level of driving involvement and also increases fuel economy. The Pao can cruise comfortably at highway speeds and is peppy about the city. The suspension is soft and Nissan can handle the rigors of daily use and abuse. The power steering is light and easy to manipulate making parking a snap and the brakes easily slow down the featherweight. Grip comes from new Goodyear all season rubber mounted at each corner. The new tires will last for tens of thousands of miles to come thanks to a fresh alignment and they reduce road noise a fair amount too.
