The Nissan Pao is one of the most unique and loved vehicles we import. Loved for its quirky styling, incredible efficiency, yet smooth driving dynamics. This 1989 example is finished in a pretty Ivory (EJ1) and offered with a mere 90K verified miles. Featuring OEM rain guards and yellow fogs, the body is in good shape other than a few minor scuffs, dings, and chips associated with normal use. Legally imported and including a slate of recent maintenance items, this distinctive hatch is a turn-key option for inexpensive and fun motoring.

The retro-themed interior looks neat today and has more space and storage than you might expect. The dash is in good shape, as are the carpets, and there is plenty of storage from the glove box to the parcel shelf below it and even the seatbacks. The headroom is impressive, and a soft top gives a tad more room for our taller customers. The top is fixed at this point, and no longer operates, but the A/C has received a fresh charge. Additional ventilation comes from roll down windows, which have been framed by OEM rain guards. The rear windows have a clever venting feature where the bottom half pops out for some additional circulation. The twill seats are in fair shape, other than some light staining, and are lacking any major rips, or tears. The rare factory audio functions properly as do the central gauges and switchgear. However, the interior is far from perfect. There is a tear in the headliner and the interior plastics all have scuffs from being touched. Still, this 31-year-old steed is enjoyable to drive and comfortable on the road.

The engine and chassis in this car certainly weren't designed for performance, which is a good thing for longevity. The small, yet peppy MA10S 1.0L gasoline four-cylinder benefits from an oil and filter service, so no scheduled maintenance is required for another three-thousand mile. A freshly installed 12V battery makes cold starts a snap, and should make it through the next four or five cold winters. With a twist of the key, the four-banger fires to life and sets into a constant idle. Power is fed through an automatic transmission and sent to the front wheels. The tiny two-door has enough power to accelerate up to highway speeds and merge safely. The brakes stop the Pao easily, and the steering is light and makes the little Nissan a breeze to park. The retro-styled wheels are wrapped in new all-season rubber all around, mounted, and balanced by one of our trained technicians.
